Suwen Süper Ligi: Galatasaray win, Fenerbahçe triumph in Europe as Beşiktaş fixture is called off | OneFootball

Galatasaray beat second-placed Amed 4-1 in Week 5 of the Suwen Süper Ligi, while Fenerbahçe won 4-1 against FC Minsk in Hungary in the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup.

Here’s how the latest round of results unfolded in Türkiye’s top flight.

Fenerbahçe in Europe

Fenerbahçe had no Süper Ligi fixture this weekend. Instead, they travelled to Hungary for their UEFA Women’s Europa Cup second qualifying round tie against FC Minsk.

UEFA does not permit Belarusian clubs to play matches at home. The game therefore took place in Hungary. Minsk had also played its first round home leg against Agram at the same ground.

Gökhan Bozkaya’s side has built much of its threat on rehearsed set pieces. Katie Bowen scored from a corner against Beşiktaş the week before. Ece Türkoğlu’s header from a set piece against Metalist Kharkiv was the club’s first goal in European competition. Centre-back Yaşam Göksu has also scored three goals this season. Against Minsk, however, none of Fenerbahçe’s four goals came from a set piece.

Minsk defended extremely deep when Fenerbahçe had possession. The whole team dropped towards the edge of its own box and looked to counter with balls in behind. That approach produced the opening goal after 14 minutes. Viktoria Valyuk ran onto a ball over the top to put Minsk ahead.

Marie Ngah Manga equalised from Türkoğlu’s ball in the 41st minute. She scored again from Jeannette Kayan’s pass two minutes later. A header from Kayan’s corner then hit the bar just before half-time.

Andrea Stašková made it 3-1 in the 63rd minute. Kayan then scored from long range over the advancing Ekaterina Ulasevich in the 69th.

The return leg is on 30 September at the Yusuf Ziya Öniş Stadium.

Galatasaray beat Amed

Galatasaray started the round fourth on eight points, one behind Amed. Cristina Martín-Prieto scored three times, heading in Melike Pekel’s cross in the ninth minute, following up in the 23rd and rounding the goalkeeper in the second half.

Kevser Kartal scored for Amed in the 77th minute before Marta Cintra converted a stoppage-time penalty. A member of Amed’s technical staff was sent off after protests.

Galatasaray have now won three in a row, following a 6-0 win against Fomget and a 5-0 win at Sultanbeyli Gücü.

Trabzonspor come from behind

Trabzonspor and Sultanbeyli Gücü started the day level on six points. Sultanbeyli, whose goalkeeper Duygu Yılmaz and centre-back Çiğdem Belci are both 38-year-old school teachers, were without head coach Çağdaş Töre through suspension.

Şehriban Dülek gave Sultanbeyli the lead in the 51st minute by rounding Gamze Nur Yaman. Fatma Kara Gültekin, who had missed two first half chances, equalised in the 70th minute, before Donjeta Halilaj scored the winner in the 85th.

Beşiktaş fixture not played

Beşiktaş’s scheduled Week 5 match at Giresun Sanayispor was not played after the home side did not take the field. The match had been scheduled with Giresun as the home side.

It is the third match this season that has not been played because a team failed to field a side.

International break

The league now pauses for Türkiye’s 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying first round play-off against Slovenia. The first leg is at Pendik Stadium on Friday, 9 October, at 7 p.m. local time, with the return in Slovenia on Tuesday, 13 October.

Beşiktaş have six players in the 30-player provisional squad, the most of any club, followed by Galatasaray with five and Fenerbahçe with four.
