Sven Botman has surgery on facial fracture after Tyne-Wear derby collision

Sven Botman has undergone surgery on a facial fracture after a collision with Sunderland forward Brian Brobbey in Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby.

The club said in a statement on Monday that the operation was successful and wished him a swift recovery.

He suffered the injury in the second half at St James’ Park and, following concussion protocol, was substituted in the 55th minute.

Earlier in the week Newcastle were beaten 7-2 by Barcelona in the Champions League, before the derby defeat to Sunderland.

He faces a spell out, but is expected to be available again in the closing weeks of the season.
