Sven Botman has undergone surgery on a facial fracture after colliding with Sunderland forward Brian Brobbey in Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby, where he was replaced in the 55th minute.
The club said in a statement that the operation was successful. It added he was withdrawn under concussion protocol in the second half and is not expected to be sidelined for long, with hopes of featuring again in the closing weeks of the season.

Newcastle lost to Sunderland at St James' Park.
That setback followed a 7-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Confirmation arrived on Monday afternoon as the defender begins his recovery.
