Swansea City chief executive Tom Gorringe has accused Sky Sports of sidelining his club during last week’s derby defeat at Wrexham, criticising an alternative broadcast fronted by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.
Reynolds and Rob Mac joined presenter David Prutton on Sky’s watchalong on 13 March, which ran alongside the main commentary on a separate channel.
In programme notes before Saturday’s visit of leaders Coventry City, Gorringe said he hoped for more balanced treatment than at Wrexham and argued any push to grow the EFL should remain impartial.
He said the production, handled by the Wrexham owners’ company, focused on the hosts, highlighted celebrations with Prutton, and even promoted the commentary without naming Swansea. He said he would raise the issue with the EFL next week.
Sky said it produced ‘Live from Wrexham with Rob & Ryan’, and that 40 per cent of in-house viewers chose the alternative feed, 168,000 of a total of 424,000.
Reynolds and Mac marked five years as Wrexham owners in February, during which the club have climbed from the National League, the fifth tier, to the upper reaches of the Championship.
Wrexham won 2-0 at the Racecourse Ground, strengthening their play-off push and leaving Swansea in mid-table.
