Swansea City have confirmed Joe Allen and Leon Britton as part of Vitor Matos' initial coaching staff
Swansea City have confirmed roles for former players Leon Britton and Joe Allen as part of Vitor Matos’ arrival as manager.
The Swans have released a statement on their website to announce the appointment of their newest manager.
The 37-year-old joins the Championship side in what is just his second role as a manager in his career, making the switch from Maritimo in the second tier in Portugal.
Maritimo confirmed during the weekend that Swansea agreed to pay the €1 million (£880,000) release clause in his contract, which paved the way for his move.
Matos previously worked as a coach in England as part of Jurgen Klopp’s first team staff at Liverpool, and he was also an assistant manager to Pepijn Lijnders at RB Salzburg prior to taking over at Maritimo last summer.

Swansea have confirmed that Britton and Allen will be taking on short-term roles as part of Matos’ coaching staff following his arrival as manager.
While the rest of the backroom staff is still being worked on, the pair of ex-players will help with the Portuguese's transition to the club.
Many supporters have voiced their delight at the arrival of the pair, who enjoyed lengthy and successful careers during their time with the Swans.
Britton made over 400 appearances for the Welsh outfit across two stints, originally signing for the team on loan from West Ham in 2002.
Meanwhile, Allen came through the Swansea academy system to make over 100 appearances from 2007 to 2012, including playing a pivotal role in their promotion to the Premier League, before returning again in 2022 to close out his career.
Fans are happy to see the duo getting involved with the Championship side again, marking a positive start to Matos’ time with the club.
Supporters are also happy to see some of the old coaching staff depart, including Darren O’Dea and Richard Stearman, drawing a line in the sand on Alan Sheehan’s brief spell as manager.
Matos’ first game in charge will come on Tuesday night in a 7.45pm clash against Derby County, with the side sitting 20th in the Championship table.

Bringing in Britton and Allen is a feelgood moment for Swansea, and evokes the best time in the club’s modern history.
The two were key to establishing the club in the top flight, and Britton was part of the team that won the 2013 League Cup final under Michael Laudrup.
While they are only set for short-term roles, that could always change if they work well with Matos, and their popularity with the supporters will also help.
