Michael Olise is currently impressing fans not only with his spectacular offensive plays but also with his exceptional game intelligence. Former Bundesliga coach Mirko Slomka has now paid the Bayern star a special compliment.
Michael Olise is currently one of the defining figures at FC Bayern and on the French national team. After an outstanding season in Munich, the 24-year-old is continuing his strong performances at the World Cup and is considered by many experts to be one of the most well-rounded attacking players in the world.
Now Mirko Slomka has also spoken at length about the Frenchman’s qualities—highlighting, above all, his understanding of the game.
In an interview with *kicker*, the former Bundesliga coach was asked which players are currently impressing him the most.
His answer quickly turned to Michael Olise. “I’m very interested in Michael Olise on the French national team. Not just because of his technique, but because of the quality of his decision-making,” Slomka explained.
For the former Hannover 96 coach, that is precisely where the Bayern Munich pro’s greatest strength lies. “He’s not just a dribbler; he’s someone who can choose very cleanly between passing, dribbling, making a run, and changing position.”
Slomka didn’t stop at this praise, however. In his view, it is precisely this combination of technical skill and decision-making that makes Olise an exceptional player. “Players like Olise are also tactically invaluable because they connect the team between the lines,” emphasized the 57-year-old.
In doing so, Slomka describes precisely the quality that has set Olise apart in recent months, both at FC Bayern and while playing for the French national team.
The attacking player impresses not only with spectacular individual plays but, above all, with his ability to read the game in a flash and make the right decision.

Added to this is his tremendous flexibility. At FC Bayern, Olise primarily plays on the right wing, from where he regularly cuts inside to shape the play.
For France, however, he has already been deployed in several positions—both on the wing and in attacking midfield.
It is precisely this versatility that makes him particularly valuable to coaches like Vincent Kompany and Didier Deschamps.
Olise knows how to intelligently occupy space and consistently set up his teammates. At the same time, he possesses the quality to decide games with goals or assists.
The numerous accolades are no coincidence.
After his strong season with FC Bayern, many observers now consider Olise part of the broader circle of candidates for the Ballon d’Or. Even though players like Ousmane Dembélé or Bayern teammate Harry Kane are currently often touted as favorites, the Frenchman is increasingly being mentioned in the same breath as the biggest stars in world soccer.
For now, however, the focus is entirely on the World Cup.
Should Olise continue to deliver outstanding performances as the tournament progresses, his importance to France—and his standing in international soccer—is likely to grow even further.
