“Tame and predictable” Chelsea look like their League One opposition say Sky commentators

Sky Sports are covering the Chelsea – Cardiff EFL Cup quarter final, and so far it’s not looking great for the Blues.

Enzo Maresca changed up his team almost completely, and it shows. The Blues are struggling to find any rhythm, while their opposition are unbelievably impressive for a League One team, stroking the ball around and competing physically too.

“No shots on target from Chelsea and just 0.17 worth of expected goals created from the Premier League team. All very tame and predictable in their approach so far,” their reporter Lewis Jones wrote.

That wasn’t the only criticism of the Blues in the first 45 minutes – co-commentator Alan Smith noted that “it’s not obvious which team is the Premier League outfit and the League One outfit. Nothing to separate the teams so far.”

Let’s hope they find another gear in the second half. We really don’t want to have to bring on any of the big guns, and in fact it would be great to take off Moises Caicedo, the only first team player out there right now.

At the moment, the tempo is dropping lower and lower and we can’t see any alternative to some changes to add some quality.

In other news…

Chelsea’s team selection tonight was bound to create some questions as it saw full rotation from Enzo Maresca once again. You can see why there was criticism. Once again there’s no chemistry or understanding between this group of players put out on the pitch. They’re just hoping individual quality wins them the day.

Enzo Maresca’s outburst over the weekend was extraordinary, and one of the big conclusions from it is that the manager may be pushing to leave next year.
