The project for AS Roma’s new stadium in Pietralata has suffered a setback.

The Lazio Regional Administrative Court (TAR) has suspended tree felling and exploratory work in the area designated for the Giallorossi stadium until May 13.

The decision puts a freeze on the preventive archaeological surveys and undergrowth clearing operations authorized by the Capitoline Hill.

According to Agenzia Nova, the measure stems from an appeal filed by committees and associations opposing the project.

Administrative judges have suspended the felling of 26 trees, upholding the arguments of the residents’ lawyers challenging the legitimacy of the municipal permits.

According to the committees’ lawyers: “Environmental damage and the destruction of a natural habitat are expected.”

The suspension of activities will remain in effect until the final hearing scheduled for May 13th, when the court will assess the merits of the case. Only then will it be clear whether Roma will be able to resume preliminary operations or whether the process will be significantly delayed.

For the club, this represents a bureaucratic obstacle that is slowing down the progress in an area already at the center of heated local debate. Pending the ruling in mid-May, traffic in the Pietralata area will have to remain idle, marking a point in favor of the “No” camp.
