Speaking to HLN, Gent’s Moroccan attacker Tarik Tissoudali believes that his side would be second if he had not gotten injured. Tissoudali tore the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee back in July in a game against Sint-Truiden and has been out since. The 29 year-old was targeting a World Cup squad spot with the Atlas Lions, who made history by becoming the first African side to make a semi-final.

Tissoudali said “Where would Ghent have been if I had been fit? I think second just after Genk, to be honest”. The former Beerschot player joined Gent in February of 2021 for under a million euros. The striker has made 72 appearances in all competition for the Buffaloes, scoring 34 times and providing 19 assists. Despite interest from abroad, Tissoudali recently signed a new contract with Gent that will last until 2026.

Tissoudali is currently still recovering from his injury, and said he is aiming to be back in time for the play-offs at the end of April. Gent are currently 5th in the league and are through to the next round of the Europa Conference League, where they will play against Qarabag.
