Tarkowski raves about Branthwaite as Spurs masterclass earns praise from skipper and Moyes | OneFootball

James Tarkowski and David Moyes have lauded Jarrad Branthwaite following the Everton defender's impressive start to the season.

Branthwaite produced another commanding performance as Everton battled to a goalless draw at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening.

The 24-year-old has started all four league games so far this season, as he looks to bounce back from an injury-hit 2025/26 season. Branthwaite started just seven league games last season due to hamstring issues.

Branthwaite picked up the man-of-the-match award in North London and Tarkowski hailed his teammate as an 'amazing' centre-back partner.

“We've sort of worked on that in time and Jazz is an amazing partner to have next to you. He's as strong as an ox, rapid, brilliant on the ball, two footed and communicates really well," Tarkowski told evertonfc.com.

"Last year it was difficult for him. He didn't play many games and missed a lot of football, but he's come back fit and flying and you see tonight the quality he's got, the amount of tackles and blocks he makes, but also he’s very composed and comfortable on the ball. So hopefully that continues for him.”

David Moyes also joined in the praise of Branthwaite and believes the defender could be in contention for an England call-up this month. Thomas Tuchel will name his England squad for the autumn international break on Friday.

“It would be fabulous if he did [get called up]. I think England have got some really good centre-halves at the moment.

“You’ve got Marc Guehi, Levi Colwill, Ezri Konsa, there’s some really good centre-halves. But I think Jarrad’s in that group and I think there’s far more to come from Jarrad as well.

"He's finding his way after his injury, but I want my players to be called up for their country because it means they're doing well."
