Joao Cancelo has resumed training with Al-Hilal at the Al-Majidiya Sports Centre in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Friday, after missing the Austria camp since Portugal’s 2026 World Cup campaign ended. His return has fuelled doubts that a Barcelona switch could yet collapse this summer.

Mundo Deportivo reports that he is training while the transfer is resolved, with bureaucratic hurdles, including tax matters, delaying completion. It adds that once those are cleared, Cancelo will head to Barcelona to sign a two-year deal through 2028, for a fee of eight to 10 million euros.

The 32-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Barcelona from Al-Hilal. He did enough to convince head coach Hansi Flick of his value.

Cancelo joined Al-Hilal from Manchester City in summer 2024 and impressed in his first season.

The following campaign was different, as he was left out of the domestic squad list, starting his path towards an exit.
