Celtic locked horns with Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano earlier tonight as they hoped to secure a good result on the road in the UEFA Champions League. The Glaswegian outfit conceded the opening goal in the sixth minute when Antoine Griezmann found the back of the net. Daizen Maeda was sent off by the referee in the 23rd minute which put the visitors at a numerical disadvantage. Celtic shipped in another goal just before the half-time break when Alvaro Morata got his name on the scoreline. The Scottish giants were trailing 2-0 at the interval.
Brendan Rodgers’ men were poor in the second half as Atletico scored four more times thanks to a goal each from Griezmann, Morata, Samuel Lino and Saul Niguez. The contest finished with Celtic suffering a dismal 6-0 loss away from home.
