In this edition, we will remember MARQUINHOS SANTOS, the Ressacada’s all-time top scorer. Marcos Vicente dos Santos, known as Marquinhos Santos, Blond Angel, or simply M10, was born on September 29, 1981, in Biguaçu, Santa Catarina. He is an idol of the Avaí Nation.

Developed in Avaí’s youth academy, Marquinhos Santos was a two-time Santa Catarina state champion (2009 and 2019) and earned promotion to Brazil’s Série A four times (2008, 2014, 2016, and 2018). On the field, he was the standout player in Avaí’s best-ever campaign in the Brazilian Série A Championship (6th place in 2009) and in the 2011 Copa do Brasil (semifinalist).

At Avaí, he played in 1999-2000; 2006; 2008-2009; 2011; and 2013-2019. He totaled 400 matches and 94 goals, according to data published in the book AVAÍ F.C. 100 years of stories 1923 – 2023, by Dois Por Quatro publishing house, written by Adalberto Jorge Klüser, Felipe Matos, and Spyros Apóstolo Diamantaras.

In addition to Avaí, Marquinhos had spells with Inter de Limeira-SP, São Paulo-SP, Bayer Leverkusen-Germany, Flamengo-RJ, Paraná-PR, Santa Cruz-PE, Coritiba-PR, Atlético-MG, and Grêmio-RS. He was also the number 10 and captain of Neymar’s Santos-SP team, winners of the São Paulo State Championship and the Copa do Brasil in 2010.

He is the Ressacada’s all-time top scorer, with 61 goals.

Among his 94 goals, one of the most beautiful was the iconic chipped goal in the derby against Figueirense on August 10, 2013, in the 14th round of the Brazilian Série B Championship. Avaí won 3-1 in the derby played at Orlando Scarpelli Stadium. Avaí’s goals were scored by Marquinhos Santos (2) and Cléber Santana.

From 2019 onward, he became Avaí’s football manager, winning the 2021 state title. In 2022, he became technical coordinator and took charge of the first team alongside Fabrício Bento after coach Lisca was dismissed.

Currently, Marquinhos Santos remains at Avaí as technical coordinator. WALK OF FAME On November 15, 2009, Marquinhos Santos immortalized his feet on the Walk of Fame at the Adolfinho Athletes Memorial, located at Ressacada Stadium. On that occasion, Ronaldo Nazário was also honored for having scored his first goal for the Brazilian National Team at Ressacada Stadium.

RESSACADA’S ALL-TIME TOP SCORER His story is intertwined with Avaí’s own. Marquinhos took his first steps in professional football at Ressacada Stadium. From 1999 to today, there have been many moments of joy, struggle, and overcoming adversity. In the match against Bahia on November 8, 2017, M10 became the Ressacada’s all-time top scorer, with 58 goals, surpassing Décio Antônio, who had scored 57. Before retiring, Marquinhos added three more goals, reaching the mark of 61 goals at Ressacada. Check out the TV Avaí video in which M10 talks about this special moment!
