The contract poker for Dayot Upamecano is in full swing, but a trend seems to be emerging for the Bayern defender
As kicker reporter Georg Holzner reports, the FC Bayern bosses are currently in „tough negotiations“ with Dayot Upamecano and his management
As is so often the case, the sticking point is the salary and the hand money demanded. According to Holzner, the Munich club „may not meet these demands in full“. The tendency is probably towards accommodating the Frenchman’s wishes
An agreement had actually already been reached in the spring, but when Upamecano found out how much his team-mates Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala were earning thanks to their new contracts, negotiations were initially put on hold until after the Club World Cup. Now Bayern will probably have to dig much deeper into their pockets
Despite Upamecano’s high salary demands, Holzner says the trend is clearly towards an agreement. As he knows, the 27-year-old feels „fundamentally very comfortable“ at the German record champions, thanks in part to coach Vincent Kompany, who is good to him as a former centre-back and „protects, supports and challenges“ him
However, Upamecano’s contract extension is far from a done deal, with top clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Liverpool FC all vying for the services of the Bayern star
PSG in particular are making the Bayern bosses sweat: BILD soccer boss and Bayern insider Christian Falk recently explained: „Bayern don’t have a good feeling about PSG. They can pay – especially the hand money.“
Real Madrid have also recently positioned themselves in the form of Kylian Mbappé. The striker joked at a press conference for the French national team: „He’s in a great phase, playing for a great club, there are hardly any better ones – but there are better ones.“
