Tensions are emerging at Olympique de Marseille between president Pablo Longoria and sporting director Medhi Benatia, La Provence reports.
Since Longoria’s 2021 appointment, OM have seen constant turnover across sporting, medical and executive departments. Benatia knew that landscape before joining, but it is said to be wearing him down.
Current and former staff have described confusion over roles at La Commanderie and a culture of blame. One employee said people joke about it, yet privately worry about the instability.
There has been no public clash. Benatia is believed to feel his heavy involvement in recruitment and sporting decisions is not properly recognised, and the atmosphere has been described as tense.
His absence from a European trip to Belgium in December was viewed internally as an early warning sign. It coincided with Longoria’s growing focus on financial and structural matters alongside new CEO Alessandro Antonello.
Les Olympiens visit Paris FC today seeking to reset in Ligue 1 after last weekend’s Champions League exit. Talks have taken place in recent days between head coach Roberto De Zerbi, Longoria and Benatia about the future.
