Marc-Andre ter Stegen is now closer than ever to leaving FC Barcelona, with the goalkeeper reportedly accepting the club’s latest proposal to resolve the fiscal issues delaying his loan move to Ajax.

According to SPORT, the German is expected to travel to Amsterdam at the start of next week for his medical, making it increasingly unlikely that he will join Barcelona’s pre-season camp in England.

Ter Stegen had already agreed in principle to spend the season at Ajax, but the operation became stalled because of tax complications linked to the division of his salary.

Barcelona then presented a revised proposal, which the goalkeeper has now accepted after consulting his legal team.

The deal is not expected to be announced over the weekend because the remaining paperwork still needs to be completed. However, Monday is being viewed as a possible travel date for the medical and final formalities.

Ajax are understood to be pushing for a quick resolution so Ter Stegen can be registered in time for the next Conference League qualifying round.

A necessary separation for all sides

Ter Stegen trained under Hansi Flick on Friday, but his sporting position at Barcelona has been clear for some time.

Joan Garcia is the coach’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, leaving the German without a realistic path to regular minutes at the club.

Barca will still cover more than 80 per cent of his salary during the loan, so this is not a major financial victory. Even so, it would remove an awkward squad situation and provide at least some wage relief.

For Ter Stegen, the move offers a chance to play regularly again after a difficult period marked by injuries and uncertainty.

He made only two appearances during his previous loan spell at Girona before suffering a serious hamstring injury, but he impressed Michel enough for the coach to request him again at Ajax.

From Barcelona’s perspective, completing the deal before the England camp would be the cleanest outcome.

Flick can continue pre-season with a settled goalkeeping hierarchy, while Ter Stegen can begin rebuilding his rhythm in a team that genuinely wants him. After weeks of delays, the operation finally appears ready to move towards completion.
