After nearly 12 years at the club, the German said goodbye to the Barça dressing room on Tuesday, bringing an end to one of the most defining chapters of his career.

Ter Stegen’s message

In his message, Ter Stegen opened up about the emotions behind the decision, making it clear that this was not an easy moment for him.

“Today is my last day of this season with my teammates and the coaching staff at FC Barcelona, and I honestly have mixed feelings.”

Looking back on his long journey since joining Barcelona in 2014, Ter Stegen emphasised just how deeply connected he feels to the club and its people.

He described Barça as far more than just a workplace, writing, “For almost 12 years, this club, and especially this dressing room, has been my home.

“A place where I have grown as a player and as a person, and where I have experienced unforgettable moments.”

Grateful to Barcelona

Gratitude was a central theme throughout his message. Ter Stegen made sure to thank the club, the fans, and the city that welcomed him from day one.

Speaking about his connection with Barcelona and Catalonia, he said,

“I am deeply grateful and proud. I love this club, this city, and this country. I carry a feeling inside me that will never go away.

“Your support over all these years has been incredible, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

One of the most emotional moments came when he spoke about his responsibility as first-team captain. Ter Stegen described it as one of the greatest honours of his career.

“I have had the immense honour of wearing the captain’s armband, something I will carry with me forever.”

He also paid tribute to his teammates, adding, “Thank you for so many years together, for the day-to-day, the laughter, the battles, and the respect. I carry you with me.”

Excited about the future

Looking ahead, the German goalkeeper confirmed his excitement about the next challenge, while making it clear that he is staying close to home.

“Now my journey continues in Catalonia, and I am really looking forward to what is to come.”

He then ended with a heartfelt message for Barça. “I wish you all the best and hope to see you lift many more trophies.”

Ter Stegen signed off with a simple “see you soon,” leaving no doubt that this is a temporary goodbye.
