Ipswich are set to sign some much needed help in midfield, and its a familiar face.
Ipswich Town are set to re-sign Jens Cajuste on another loan deal from Napoli.
It was frankly mandatory that Kieran McKenna's side bring in a new centre-midfielder before the beginning of the 2025/26 campaign. The losses of Sam Morsy, Massimo Luongo, Kalvin Phillips and Cajuste himself left the Tractor Boys desperately short in midfield.
That is all set to change as the Swedish international is verging on a return to Portman Road. A move to Turkish side Besiktas appeared to be on the cards for Cajuste, but that deal fell through, opening the door for Ipswich to swoop in and collect the 25-year-old on another temporary deal.
They have had to pay his parent club Napoli a small loan fee of €2 million (~ £1.75 million) in order to complete the deal, according to Fabrizio Romano, for the player who was used 30 times by McKenna last term in the Premier League.
Should the Tractor Boys bounce back to the English first division at the first time of asking, Cajuste will become a permanent member of their squad. A clause in the loan deal will require the East Anglian side to pay Napoli €7.5 million (£6.5 million) if they win promotion this season.
Romano has also said that Cajuste would sign a deal with Ipswich until the summer of 2029 as part of the agreement, if they prove right the many people who back the Tractor Boys to make a swift return to the top flight.
Ipswich are also hopeful of completing another major move before their first game of the season against Birmingham City. They have hijacked a move by Friday night's hosts for Ajax forward Chuba Akpom. He travelled back to England to complete a medical with Town on Monday evening ahead of his loan move to Portman Road, as per Anthony Joseph.
The deal is not quite done and dusted as Birmingham are now exploring the possibility of a permanent move for Akpom. This, however, hasn't shifted Ipswich out of pole position in the race for the former Middlesbrough goalscorer.
Money shouldn't be an issue for Ipswich in this window, given the parachute payments they are receiving from the Premier League, plus the £30 million they got from Chelsea for Liam Delap early in the window.
But still, the Tractor Boys are showing that they can still do smart business, even when they have the money to compete for more highbrow transfers.
Cajuste, for a potential permanent package of £8.25 million, is very solid business. If they do get promoted, Town know they have a player worthy of that level already on their books, one that cost them a relatively minimal fee and, in that case, helped them to win promotion.
