Terrão youngster nets, Corinthians seal Paulistão knockout spot

On the evening of this Sunday (15), Corinthians faced São Bernardo FC at the Primeiro de Maio Stadium, ABC Paulista, for the eighth and final round of the Paulistão and won by a score of 1 x 0, with a goal scored by midfielder André. With this result, the Alvinegro finishes the first phase in fifth place and advances to the quarterfinals to face Portuguesa.

In the first half, Corinthians fluctuated a lot, despite creating dangerous chances. Timão started better in the match but saw São Bernardo equalize the game more, even scoring a goal that was disallowed for offside. Towards the end, the Alvinegro Paulista almost opened the scoring with shots from outside the area but saw Alex Alves make great saves to keep it 0-0.

In the second half, Corinthians experienced a similar scenario, creating dangerous chances and seeing the opposing goalkeeper make important interventions. São Bernardo, on the other hand, found it difficult to create chances, and Hugo Souza only needed to make one difficult save. At 21 minutes, midfielder André appeared at the edge of the area to finish with great skill and score the goal that sealed Timão's advance to the Paulistão knockout stage.

Next Commitment

After facing São Bernardo away from home in the state championship, Corinthians shifts focus to the Brazilian Championship. Next Thursday (19), at 7:30 PM, the Alvinegro will visit Athletico-PR at Arena da Baixada, in a postponed match from the second round of the national competition.

For the match, the Corinthians technical staff dealt with the absence of the following players: defender Cacá (in negotiations with other clubs), left-back Hugo Farias (knee surgery), midfielders Matheus Pereira (suspended for a third yellow card) and Breno Bidon (muscle injury), as well as forward Kaio César (recovering from a thigh muscle injury). Memphis Depay and Gustavo Henrique also did not accompany the delegation and were rested for the match.

Thus, Corinthians started the match with: Hugo Souza; Pedro Milans, André Ramalho, João Pedro Tchoca, and Matheus Bidu; Charles, Allan, André, and Garro; Vitinho and Gui Negão.

The bench had the following options: Felipe Longo, Kauê, Matheuzinho, Gabriel Paulista, Yuri Alberto, Raniele, Pedro Raul, Carrilo, Kayke, Bahia, Jacaré, and Dieguinho.

Refereeing

The referee was Flavio Rodrigues de Souza, assisted by Alex Ang Ribeiro and Anderson Jose de Moraes Coelho, while the VAR was led by Vinicius Furlan.

First Half

The first offensive move of the match was by Timão. At four minutes, Vitinho launched the ball forward, Charles chested it down, and Gui Negão shot with his left foot but sent it wide, not posing much danger to São Bernardo.

At six minutes, Corinthians had a good opportunity from a free-kick very close to the area, but Garro aimed for the goalkeeper's corner, and Alex Alves made the save, deflecting it. At eight, Vitinho worked the ball on the left and served Allan entering the area. The midfielder shot with his left foot but missed.

At nine minutes, Vitinho worked on the left and crossed into the area. Charles, inside the area, headed it, but without direction and power, and the ball passed in front of Alex Alves. At 13, Vitinho received the ball from Matheus Bidu on the left, advanced, and shot for the goal, but the opposing goalkeeper made the save.

At 16 minutes, Pará took advantage of a loose ball at the edge of the area and struck hard, but Hugo Souza made the save in two attempts and calmed the team. At 30 minutes, João Paulo took a free-kick from the right side, and Augusto, inside the area, headed it into the goal, which was disallowed for offside by the São Bernardo player.

At 35, André got past the marker and shot, but the ball deflected off the São Bernardo defense and went to Pedro Milans on the right, who crossed into the area. Charles rose higher than the São Bernardo defense and headed it, but sent it weakly wide.

At 38 minutes, Garro served Matheus Bidu on the left side, and the full-back tried from a distance, forcing Alex Alves to make a great save. In the next play, Pedro Milans received the ball on the right and passed to Garro inside the area. The midfielder shot with his left foot, forcing the opposing goalkeeper to make another great save.

At 41, André received the ball from Vitinho and, from outside the area, shot with his right foot, posing a great threat to Alex Alves. There were no more dangerous plays, and the teams went to the break with the score tied at 0-0.Second Half

The first offensive move of the second half was by São Bernardo. In the first minute, Pedro Vitor received and advanced into the area but shot wide without posing much danger to the goal defended by Hugo Souza.

At six minutes, Tchoca advanced with the ball and found Vitinho well in the infiltration on the left. The forward invaded the area and crossed inside, but Augusto made the cut. At eight, the number 11 again escaped on the left, got past the marker, and played into the area. After the initial cut by the opposing defense, the ball fell to André, who shot for an important save by Alex Alves.

At nine minutes, Corinthians exchanged passes in attack, moving the ball around in search of space. Vitinho appeared on the right, adjusted, and shot for the goal, but Alex Alves caught the ball. At ten, Augusto launched from defense to attack, Hugo Sanches controlled on the left, made the play, and escaped down the line. He crossed dangerously, and the ball passed through the entire Corinthians defense.

At 11, Vitinho activated Garro on the left. The Argentine midfielder gave a beautiful dribble on the marker and crossed into the area. The forward presented himself to head, but didn't hit the ball cleanly and sent it weakly wide. In the next minute, Charles took advantage of a loose ball in midfield, carried it, adjusted, and shot from a distance, but the ball didn't even come close to Alex Alves's goal.

The Corinthians Goal: at 21 minutes, Garro attempted a pass seeking Vitinho, and the São Bernardo defender made the cut. The ball passed by Yuri Alberto, who tried to control it, and it fell cleanly at the edge of the area for André to strike first-time, low, and into the right corner of Alex Alves, opening the scoring for Timão.

At 37 minutes, Garro took a free-kick to the top left corner of Alex Alves. The goalkeeper flew and touched the ball, which hit the crossbar before going out for a corner to Corinthians. At 39, Pablo Dyego made a dangerous header from a cross on the right, forcing Hugo Souza to make a beautiful save to prevent São Bernardo's equalizer.

The final stretch brought bad news for Corinthians. Forward Yuri Alberto, who came on during the second half, placed his hand on the back of his left thigh and had to be substituted at 43 minutes, causing concern for the remainder of the season.
