Hansi Flick has confirmed that Barcelona will not have Lamine Yamal available for Sunday’s match against Valencia – and his availability for the Champions League opener against Newcastle United is also in question.
Lamine Yamal did not train with his teammates on Saturday, and afterwards, Flick confirmed in his press conference that he will not be involved against Valencia. As per Diario AS, he also revealed that the 18-year-old played with the injury while with Spain during the international break, which has made him very unhappy.
“Lamine Yamal will not be available, he has discomfort in his pubis. He is also a doubt for Newcastle. He went to the national team with pain and did not train. They gave him painkillers to play. They had at least a three-goal lead in each match, and he played 73 and 79 minutes, and between matches, he couldn’t train.
“That’s not taking care of the player. I think the Spanish national team has a great team, the best players in the world, but they haven’t cared about their players. I’m very sad about this.”

Flick was asked about whether he had spoken with Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente on the matter, as he noted that the pair has had trouble communicating.
“I have never spoken to him – we have messaged via text, but I have never spoken to him. My Spanish is not very good, neither is his English, but at the end of the day the communication could be better, we don’t just have one player, we have more. I was on the other side and the communication was always good.”
On the match against Valencia itself, Flick spoke highly of his opposition number ahead of the showdown at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
“Carlos Corberán has done a fantastic job. He has stabilised the team, and this year they have interesting new players.”
