We looked at which Huddersfield Town players could be leaving the club next summer when their contracts expire.
After a disappointing first year back in League One last season, Huddersfield Town will be hoping to challenge for promotion this campaign.
Huddersfield made the controversial decision to part company with Michael Duff in March, and they fell out of promotion contention under caretaker manager Jon Worthington, eventually finishing last season in a disappointing 10th place.
Lee Grant was named as Duff's permanent replacement in May, with the former Ipswich Town coach being handed his first managerial role at the Accu Stadium, and he was given strong backing in the transfer market by owner Kevin Nagle.
The Terriers brought in 14 new signings this summer, with Owen Goodman, Lynden Gooch, Joe Low, Sean Roughan, Jack Whatmough, Josh Feeney, Murray Wallace, Ryan Ledson, Marcus McGuane, Leo Castledine, Marcus Harness, Will Alves, Alfie May and Zepiqueno Redmond all arriving at the club, and after their strong transfer business, many tipped Grant's men to win promotion this season.
A promising start to the season has been followed by inconsistent form in recent weeks, but amid increasing pressure on Grant from supporters, Nagle confirmed on social media during the international break that the 42-year-old retains his full support.
With five of Huddersfield's signings joining on loan in Goodman, Feeney, Castledine, Alves and Redmond, they will have some gaps to fill in their squad next summer if they are unable to secure permanent deals for the quintet, but they may not be the only ones departing at the end of the season, and we looked at two other players who could be on the move when their contracts expire.
Midfielder Ben Wiles made the move from South Yorkshire to West Yorkshire when he swapped Rotherham United for Huddersfield in the summer of 2023.
On paper, Wiles has delivered some impressive numbers for Town from midfield, with the 26-year-old scoring nine goals and providing eight assists in 51 appearances in all competitions last season, and he has already found himself on the scoresheet a few times this campaign.
Despite the strong competition for places in central midfield, Wiles has been a regular starter for Huddersfield this season, and he is clearly trusted by Grant, which is underlined by the fact he was handed the captain's armband for the recent EFL Cup tie against Manchester City.
However, although Wiles can be one of the best midfielders in League One on his day, his inconsistency has been a frustration for some sections of the Terriers fanbase, and after being named as part of Grant's leadership group, supporters will be hoping to see him step up for his team more often during difficult spells.
Given that Wiles has been an important player for Grant during the early stages of his tenure, it seems likely the Terriers will look to tie him down to a new contract ahead of the summer, but as he is now in the final year of his current deal, he could potentially attract interest from Championship clubs in January.
Huddersfield fought off competition from a host of Championship and League One clubs to land the signature of winger Mickel Miller last summer following his release by Plymouth Argyle.
Miller brought plenty of third tier experience with him to the Accu Stadium having previously won the division with the Pilgrims in the 2022-23 campaign, and he made a bright start to his Terriers career last season before he suffered a knee injury in November that ruled him out for over four months.
The 29-year-old ended his first season with Town with a respectable total of five assists in 20 games despite his injury problems, and he would have been hoping to kick on this campaign after returning to full fitness.
Miller started the opening two league games of the season for the Terriers, suggesting that he is highly-rated by Grant, but his injury curse then struck once again, and he has been sidelined since August with a hamstring injury.
There is no doubt that Miller is a more than capable performer at League One level, but he has been unable to live up to his potential during his time at Huddersfield so far, and unless he can prove his fitness, it may be difficult for Grant to offer him a new contract in the summer.
