Leeds United could revisit a familiar tactic this summer by targeting players with 12 months left on their deals. It is a stage when clubs either renew or consider sales to avoid free exits, often weakening their stance.
According to Transfermarkt, an XI across the Premier League and Europe set to enter that window includes players from Arsenal, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.
Elland Road chiefs did so when signing Jayden Bogle from Sheffield United for £5m, while Ao Tanaka arrived from Fortuna Dusseldorf in the final year of his deal.
From that list, options include goalkeeper Noah Atubolu of Freiburg, 24, valued at £21.6m, and right-back Milan van Ewijk of Coventry City, 25, at £19m.
Centre-back choices listed are Jhon Lucumi of Bologna, 27, at £19m, and Antonio Silva of Benfica, 22, at £21.6m. On the left, David Raum of RB Leipzig, 28, is put at £21.6m.
In midfield, Club Brugge’s Raphael Onyedika, 25, carries a £19.9m valuation. Targeting soon-to-expire contracts can be a useful avenue, though any moves would depend on price and fit.
