FLW takes a look at the five players set to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers next summer following the expiry of their current contracts

Wolverhampton Wanderers' eight-year stay in the Premier League ended with a whimper last season, but as the Old Gold look to pick themselves up, newly appointed head coach Cesar Peixoto looks to breathe new life into the Black Country outfit.

Wolves won just three Premier League games last season upon their relegation back to the Championship, with it being made abundantly clear that something of a reset was required at Molineux.

Rob Edwards was dismissed from his role as head coach despite expectations that the Welshman would guide his former side back into the second tier, with Cesar Peixoto replacing him at the helm whilst the likes of Joao Gomes, Toluwase Arokodare, and Hwang Hee-chan have also left the club.

Peixoto's side have shown glimpses of their ability to dominate games in the Championship upon their return to the division, as the former Gil Vicente head coach will know the task that is laid out in front of him.

Big changes will once again be made next summer, regardless of what division Wolves find themselves in, as FLW takes a look at every player in their current squad set to depart in 2027 upon the expiry of their current deals.

Bertrand Traoré

31-year-old winger Bertrand Traoré has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with Wolves recently following his release from Sunderland at the end of last season.

Capped 86 times by Burkina Faso, Traoré came through the youth system of Auxerre and joined Chelsea officially in January 2014, heading immediately out on loan to Dutch side Vitesse.

After struggling to establish himself in Chelsea's first team, Traoré joined Ajax on loan in 2016, before a permanent switch to French outfit Lyon, and after 126 appearances in all competitions for the club, returned to England for around £17 million in September 2020 with Aston Villa.

Spells with Istanbul Başakşehir, Villarreal, Ajax (again), and most recently Sunderland have followed, as the winger penned a one-year deal on a free transfer with Wolves recently.

Peixoto will be hoping for an immediate and strong impact from the Burkinabe, and whether he extends his stay at Molineux beyond this campaign depends on how he and Wolves perform this season.

Boubacar Traore

From one Traoré to another, Boubacar Traoré joined Wolves in the summer of 2023 from French outfit Metz, but has struggled to nail down a place in the Old Gold's side since.

The Malian has twice rejoined Metz on loan, but appears to be a part of Peixoto's plans in the Black Country this year, closing in on 50 appearances across all competitions for the club.

His current deal is due to expire next summer, and at this stage, it looks unlikely that it will be extended beyond its current duration.

Ghislain Konan

Ivorian left-back Ghislain Konan, like Bertrand Traoré, joined Wolves recently, following Peixoto from Portuguese side Gil Vicente to provide another option at left-back to Hugo Bueno following David Møller Wolfe's departure.

Konan, 30, has 56 caps for his nation, including three at the recent World Cup in North America, as well as playing against the likes of France, Portugal, and Saudi Arabia across his career.

Penning an initial one-year deal, his stay in the Midlands is set to end in 2027, though if he proves his worth, it wouldn't be a surprise to see that extended.

Tawanda Chirewa

16-capped Zimbabwe international Tawanda Chirewa came through the ranks of Ipswich Town, but failed to make an appearance for the Tractor Boys, joining Wolves in 2023.

Since then, the attacking-midfielder has spent time out on loan with Derby County, Huddersfield Town, and Barnsley to minimal success, and though he looks to be a part of first-team plans this season, whether he can make an impact in his limited minutes to warrant a new deal remains to be seen.

John Ruddy

The third and final player to have penned a one-year deal with the Old Gold this summer, 39-year-old John Ruddy has returned to Molineux after four years away to act as deputy to Jose Sa and Joao Virginia.

The veteran shot-stopper previously made 72 appearances for Wolves across a five-year stay with the club between 2017 and 2022, and returns to the club once again following his release from Newcastle United in the summer.

Well and truly in the twilight of his playing career, whether Ruddy will pen an extension with the club largely depends on behind-the-scenes actions rather than how he performs on the pitch, as this could well be the final year of his two-decade-long spell in the game.
