Birmingham City host Wolves on Sunday in what should be an exciting Midlands derby as both clubs look to lay down an early marker in the Championship promotion race.

Chris Davies’ side have had a tough start on paper, but they remain unbeaten, and they will fancy their chances against anyone at this level at home.

Meanwhile, Wolves suffered their first defeat under Cesar Peixoto last time out at West Ham, although seven points from their opening three games means they go into the game above Blues at this early stage.

Whilst this isn’t the number one derby for either club, it’s a fixture that always has an edge to it, so it will be a cracking atmosphere at St. Andrew’s. And, here we run down the latest injury news, with SEVEN players who we know won’t be involved…

Taylor Gardner-Hickman

The versatile 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Blackburn, so it would have been interesting to see if he had secured another switch away during the summer window.

But, that couldn’t happen due to an injury Gardner-Hickman suffered in pre-season, which Davies confirmed would keep him out for ‘months’. So, he will not be involved against Wolves, and his return is still some time away.

Max Bird

The midfielder joined Blues from Bristol City and picked up an injury to his calf after one brief sub appearance in royal blue.

That will be a huge frustration for Bird, but pleasingly for the player, it’s not a serious issue, although he won’t be available against Wolves.

Marc Leonard

Like Gardner-Hickman, Leonard was out on loan last season, so he faced an uncertain future at St. Andrew’s, but he ruptured an Achilles whilst with Hearts that means he will miss a big chunk of this season.

Yerson Mosquera

Onto Wolves, and they will be without Mosquera, with the Colombian international not expected to return prior to the international break later this month.

He started the season as Peixoto’s first-choice centre-back, but he suffered an ankle issue in the opening day draw against Blackburn, despite trying to carry on. Nasser Djiga has taken his place in the XI and is expected to play against Blues.

Kieran Trippier

It’s a similar timescale for Trippier, who also picked up the issue against Rovers, as he damaged his MCL on what was his league debut for Wolves.

That was a real blow for Peixoto and the player, as Trippier’s leadership, as well as his quality, will be crucial for Wolves’ promotion push this season.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde

The midfielder has missed virtually all of the pre-season for Wolves after suffering a hamstring injury, which potentially scuppered his chances of a move as well.

Bellegarde is expected to return in the coming weeks, and Wolves’ failure to sign a right winger means he may be earmarked for that role moving forward, but he won’t be involved against Birmingham.

Rafiki Said

The winger was Wolves’ main summer signing in terms of the fee, as they paid £7.7m to bring Said to Molineux from Standard Leige.

However, he suffered a knee injury in his first pre-season game at Maidenhead, and it has ruled Said out for months. The Comoros international may not make his Wolves debut until late October at best.
