Patrick Agyemang signed for Derby County this summer for a hefty fee and has yet to get up to full speed.

Derby County endured a busy summer transfer window with 13 new additions being brought into the squad by manager John Eustace, with USMNT striker Patrick Agyemang being the most expensive of the arrivals.

This summer was one of major upheaval at Pride Park, with former Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers manager Eustace stamping his authority on the Derby squad with 13 new arrivals and 14 outgoings.

Unsurprisingly, things have not yet quite gelled within the Derby ranks, as players are still getting used to the system and each other, which has translated to just one win, two draws and three losses in their opening six Championship fixtures, as the Rams sit in 22nd place.

Derby County will be hoping that Patrick Agyemang can replicate the form of compatriot Josh Sargent

The most expensive of those summer arrivals was USMNT forward Agyemang, who joined the club for a reported fee of £7.3 million from MLS outfit Charlotte on a four-year deal worth £7.5k-per-week, per Capology.

Agyemang has yet to get going at his new club, having undergone a hernia operation in the early stages of this season, which has limited him to just two appearances so far.

He came off the bench to grab the assist for Andreas Weimann's winner away to West Brom, but that is about as good as it has gotten thus far for the American, who is yet to make his full debut for the club.

Agyemang is not the only American forward plying their trade in the Championship this season, however.

Norwich City's Josh Sargent, Coventry City's Haji Wright, Middlesbrough's Aidan Morris and Charlton Athletic's Charlie Kelman have all represented the Stars and Stripes at some sort of level in their careers so far.

Sargent is arguably the most notable of the four, now entering his fifth season in Norfolk and his fourth in the Championship.

The former Werder Bremen forward has scored 49 goals and notched nine assists in 105 matches in the Championship for Norwich, including five already this season.

Wright, on the other hand, is entering his third season at the CBS Arena, and, like Sargent, has netted five goals in the league this campaign, putting the American duo on top of the scoring ranks in the English second tier.

Kelman is yet to find the net in six outings for Charlton since his summer move from QPR, and having represented America at youth level, he is eligible to represent both them and England at senior level, whilst Aidan Morris is Middlesbrough's midfield metronome alongside Hayden Hackney.

Derby manager Eustace will be hoping that he is able to extract the best from Agyemang, and that he will display a similar vein of form as both Sargent, Morris and Wright as the Rams look to climb the table this season.

It's important to note that Sargent didn't hit the ground running at Carrow Road either, as he bagged just two Premier League goals in 26 appearances in his debut 21/22 campaign.

As such, it offers a pivotal reminder to Rams fans - not that they necessarily needed one - that it can take time for certain players to bed in and make the transition to English football, especially for a striker coming from the MLS.

It's a vastly different style and culture of football across the pond to what we have on these shores, but Agyemang's record for Charlotte should instill confidence that he will make a success of his time at Pride Park.

For all his good form in the English second tier, Sargent has struggled to translate his form at club level over to his national side.

He has been capped 29 times for the USMNT, but has only managed to score on five occasions, with his last goal for his country coming all the way back in November 2019, nearly six years ago, whilst Sargent was still a teenager.

This has led manager Mauricio Pochettino to give chances to the likes of PSV's Ricardo Pepi, Vancouver Whitecaps’ Brian White, AS Monaco's Folarin Balogun and Agyemang.

The Derby forward has 12 appearances for his nation to date, yet has already matched Sargent's goal tally of five in 17 fewer matches.

If Agyemang can start firing them in at Pride Park just as he has done for his nation, then he has every chance of matching and even surpassing Sargent at Championship level, as well as in the national side.
