The players that are unlikely to feature when Sheffield Wednesday host Wolves in the second round of the EFL Cup

Sheffield Wednesday suffered disappointment in their first home game of the new season.

The Owls lost 1-0 to Bradford City at Hillsborough, with Henrik Pedersen’s side looking to get back to a competitive level this League One season.

The Yorkshire outfit will be back in action again on Tuesday night, as they will host Championship side Wolves in the second round of the EFL Cup.

The Midlands outfit have earned four points from a possible six from their opening two fixtures, as they seek promotion to the Premier League.

Cesar Peixoto’s side will come into their trip to Hillsborough off the back of a 3-1 win against Preston North End last weekend.

George Brown has been absent since December following a hamstring injury, and it’s been a difficult road to recovery.

While a return to the side is getting ever closer, it’s been confirmed that he remains on the sidelines for the time being.

Tyler Onyango managed just 14 minutes of Sheffield Wednesday’s opening league game against Leyton Orient earlier this month.

Pedersen confirmed that the 23-year-old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that has effectively ended his campaign.

Di’Shon Bernard is close to a return to action, but missed the defeat to Bradford last Thursday, and it’s unclear whether he’d be risked in the EFL Cup against Wolves.

Cole McGhee is set for a lengthy absence for Sheffield Wednesday after he dislocated his shoulder.

The 20-year-old likely won’t be back for another few months, and potentially may not play again until 2027.

Kieran Trippier
