How did we play?
We played like defending was a completely alien concept to us. If you coach kids, show them this 90 minutes as a guide to how not to be a full back, or defend balls into the box. Birmingham attacked us time and again down the wings and the positioning of Stacey and Fisher allowed them to come and go as they pleased.
Conversely, there were moments – brief moments – of real quality, two-touch passing that led to our first goal. It looked, for around three minutes, like we might get back in the game, but a combination of giving the ball away in midfield (I’m looking at you KM) and piss-poor defending meant it was never really on.
The frightening thing was watching Birmingham play the ball around in a manner that, not so long ago, we remember Norwich doing with ease. That looks an aspiration way beyond these players at the moment.
What was the best bit of the game?
Kvistgaarden’s goal was well deserved as Norwich tried to get hold of the game at 2-0 down.
What was the worst bit of the game?
Our full backs are simply not good enough. That became apparent within the first ten minutes and we need to stop making excuses for them. A proper right and left back should be at the top of the shopping list this January.
What was the atmosphere like?
Hands up, this reviewer watched this in the comfort of my living room while 2000 fine fans braved the Birmingham weather. They made lots of noise, despite the awful showing.
Hero of the match
Josh Sargent seemed to give everything in pursuit of a goal. Hopefully he’ll get his reward soon.
Summary in Five Words
We need that miracle, Philippe.
