The ACN Match Review: Blackburn (h)

How did we play?

Blackburn were unspectacular, we were lacklustre and both teams seemed to need a map and a compass to find each other’s penalty areas. We missed Mattsson’s dynamism but Sam Field showed a bit of bite when he came on. Ali Ahmed couldn’t seem to beat anyone and Kenny had one of those first halves where almost everything he tries goes wrong. Although we were never really threatened, the memory of conceding stupid goals still lingers so it was good to see some calm and patient football that eventually got the reward we felt like we deserved but secretly were bricking it that we wouldn’t see it through.

What was the best bit of the game?

The final whistle. While it wasn’t a relief to hear it, this was a poor game that we simply had to win somehow and to get to the end of it without having any scares was a nice feeling.

What was the worst bit of the game?

Aside from the goals and Makama’s injury, this game was so devoid of excitement at any end of the scale, so this is being a bit picky, but Kellen Fisher was increasingly infuriating with his inability to play a decent pass as he found himself in many good forward positions. But he defended extremely well so we can forgive him.

What was the atmosphere like?

Let’s just say Carrow Road needed a pie and a pint before getting going. Even the Cantwell-baiting was half-arsed until we scored. After the second goal it was a completely different place, so we all left happy.

Hero of the match

Oscar Schwartau arrived on 62 minutes and promptly changed the game. He’s got great feet, that lad, and Blackburn couldn’t cope with him as he sent them scurrying towards their goal and pulling them out of shape. We scored our goals because of this, and we are very grateful to him.

Summary in Five Words

Boring but bring on Oxford.
