Welcome to today’s exclusive & comprehensive round-up of all things Bayern Munich from Bayern insider Christian Falk. Featuring updates on Yan Diomande, Anthony Gordon, Michael Olise, and Joško Gvardiol.
It’s getting really interesting in the DFB Pokal! Bayern didn’t make the final for six years, which is quite unusual. VfB Stuttgart also won the competition last season, so normally you’d think that Stuttgart would be the favourites. But everyone knows that Bayern Munich are the big favourites for this final following such an impressive Bundesliga season. Stuttgart, however, should not be underestimated. They have a way of playing that can cause problems for Bayern. Of course, the last time these two sides faced off in the league, FC Bayern were quite clearly the better side. However, Bayern aren’t without their potential concerns ahead of the Saturday clash. Manuel Neuer is back in the Germany squad for the World Cup following Thursday’s round of announcements. So, it’s official, he’ll be the No.1 ‘keeper ahead of on-loan Bayern man Alexander Nübel, who will be Germany’s third-choice goalkeeper. However, it’s not clear if Neuer will be available for the final. He didn’t train on Thursday, and there’s a final session on Friday. If the GOAT is not on the pitch, anything can happen!.

I can tell you, having held an interview with Bayern president Herbert Hainer on the subject of getting rid of the 50+1 rule, that it’s not just his opinion. Everyone at the club holds the same opinion, and it’s really surprising. Bayern Munich want other clubs to abandon the 50+1 rule in order to improve themselves, bring in more money and become more competitive in the Bundesliga to ensure the German top-flight can become more exciting. Intriguingly, however, Bayern have no intention of following suit; they won’t sell up, and they’re quite happy to maintain the status quo for themselves.
To be honest, Bayern don’t care about any potential outside interest in Michael Olise. He’s not for sale. Spanish outlet Fichajes reported that Liverpool could come to the table with a €170m [£147m] bid – but I don’t think it’s true! Even if it was on the money, Bayern Munich would say, “Keep your money, and we’ll keep Olise”.
I think the links to John Stones at Man City aren’t the biggest question for Bayern Munich at the moment. The rumours are still there, but Bayern have to first sell players before they can build on the defence. Stones (31) will be a free agent, and though this is an interesting proposition for Bayern, he’s not a young player any more. It could happen, but he’s not the first choice in Munich.
There’s another defender in Manchester who could be a little hotter by comparison – and that’s Joško Gvardiol (24). Lothar Matthäus said he heard that Bayern Munich are considering a move for the Croatian. In England, they’ve also broached the subject. Bayern are watching Gvardiol; he’s a very interesting player for them. However, he’s also a very expensive player. Manchester City would price him at €70m-75m [£60.5m-64.8m]. But the interesting thing is that I heard Joško Gvardiol himself would like to return to the Bundesliga. Internally, he believes it would be a dream to play in Germany again. There are many people around him pushing the defender to go to Bayern Munich.
There is a five-year contract on the table for him at Manchester City. So, in the end, I think he’ll decide in favour of the guaranteed money he’ll get at the Etihad. He can’t wait forever for Bayern. Still, there are rumours that Bayern Munich would like to sell Alphonso Davies, and if this occurs, Gvardiol, it’s worth noting, can also play at left-back. So, it would be possible to sign the Croatia international. Otherwise, €70m-75m is too much for Bayern. But I think it’s very interesting that the player himself would like to join Bayern Munich.
❌ It is NOT TRUE: Bayern’s Munich’s interest in Nathaniel Brown is hot at the minute. It’s true that Nathaniel Brown is of interest to Bayern but things have not concretely developed to a meaningful point. FC Bayern are looking at him in a similar way to how they’re looking at Gvardiol. However, there is no offer there. Frankfurt are themselves wondering why Bayern are not more concrete. One reason is that sporting director Markus Krösche, who’s a very clever man, is selling a lot of players to the Premier League for a lot of money. Omar Marmoush, for instance, went for big money to Man City. The point is that Bayern Munich would go for this kind of player. He’s German, and he’ll be at the World Cup with Julian Nagelsmann’s team. However, the price tag will be €65m-70m [£56.2m-60.5m], and this is too much for a left-back at the moment.
✅ It is TRUE: Bayern Munich have pulled back their interest in Givairo Read ahead of the summer transfer window. This is because they’re trying to sort out a new contract with Konrad Laimer. Both parties are in contact again. Laimer demanded a lot of money before, and that was too much for Bayern Munich, which is exactly why they initially stopped negotiations. But now, both sides are in talks again. If the Austrian signs a new contract, you then don’t need Read. He’d be an option if you sold Laimer or unwanted backups like Sacha Boey. At the moment, Bayern have Laimer and Josip Stanišić, and that’s enough. Manchester City are also looking at Read, and it’s hard to go against the Sky Blues in negotiations. So Bayern Munich are concentrating more on other players and other positions.
Following the cheerful scenes in Munich during the title celebrations, there were some really positive signs between Konrad Laimer and Uli Hoeneß. The latter had initially upset Laimer by stating that he’s no Maradona, so Bayern couldn’t justify paying Maradona money. This is one of the ways in which Hoeneß goes about his business at Bayern Munich, with the 74-year-old employing zuckerbrot und peitsche (“sugar bread and whip”, or, to our friends in England, “carrot and stick”) in negotiations.
✅ It is TRUE: Bayern are pulling out all the stops to try and sign Kennet Eichhorn. I heard that he was a big topic during Monday’s meeting last week between the supervisory board and Max Eberl when they made their plans for the summer. They want to go for him, and they want to pay for him (the release clause is just €12m [£10.3m]). The problem remains that there are many clubs that are also behind this player, like Manchester City, who want to sign the 16-year-old before sending him out on loan to Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern Munich are also aware of the fact that there are other Bundesliga clubs that would be able to offer a lot of playing time to the midfielder. Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, among them. This is a problem for Bayern. That said, they do also have a strong argument on their side – they can point to Lennart Karl’s development. He’s only 18 years of age and has enjoyed plenty of minutes in the 2025/26 season under Vincent Kompany. So this offers some hope for Bayern Munich and gets a foot in the door for the Eichhorn transfer.
✅ It is TRUE: Bayern Munich will try and bring Yan Diomande to Bavaria in 2027 – if they have the chance! These aren’t concrete plans at the moment, given that they’re pushing for Anthony Gordon at the moment. But if he’s still on the market in 2027 in the Bundesliga (if this happens, he’ll sign a new contract with RB Leipzig with a release clause included, which Bayern can trigger), it raises an opportunity. I also talked with other clubs in the Premier League and everyone thinks that Diomande is the next big thing. Whether it happens this summer – that remains the big question! The boss at Leipzig, Oliver Mintzlaff, has already insisted he won’t sell Diomande this summer. If he were to instead sign a new contract, then this could be a big chance for Bayern to go again for him. One thing his clear: he’s the absolute dream signing for Bayern Munich, as they expect he’s going to become really, really good. If he’s on the German market, it’s always easier for Bayern to sign him. That would become a different case if he were to sign for a Premier League club.
❌ It is NOT TRUE: There are already some negotiations that would see Alexander Nübel used in a player plus cash deal to sign Anthony Gordon. However, if Newcastle would like to have Nübel, it wouldn’t be a problem, as Bayern Munich would like to sell him. He has no chance next year in the squad. VfB Stuttgart, who currently have him on loan, can’t afford to pay him. Bayern Munich are paying two-thirds of his salary (about €10m-11m [£8.6m-9.5m]). Bayern made it clear: he has no chance to be in the squad. They want to sell him, and they’ve tried to sell him, and the Premier League would be perfect. So, if Newcastle are interested in Alexander Nübel, there’s an open door they can go through. If it then means the Gordon deal would be cheaper – it’s a win-win situation!
❌ It is NOT TRUE: Bayern Munich and Harry Kane disagree over the contract length on the table. The rumours were that Kane is demanding a contract until 2030, while Bayern Munich are just offering a one-year deal. But no, at the moment, the negotiations have not really started. Of course, when they’re at the table, this will be the big question. Will it be one year more or two years more? I think it could be a one-year contract with the option of an additional year. But Harry Kane wants to concentrate on his next title, which is the DFB Pokal in Berlin. It won’t be a big topic before then. On the England international’s end, he’s very relaxed. He’s said he can sign a contract before the World Cup and also after the World Cup. So, nobody is in a rush. Herbert Hainer also made it clear that Kane will get a new contract from Bayern Munich. Everything is relaxed.
I don’t have concrete information about Bayern’s reported interest in Pierre Mounguengue, as the club isn’t searching in this position currently. The 18-year-old could be an option for the future, but the plan is to hand a new and improved contract to Harry Kane, as well as sign Anthony Gordon in the summer market. This would make them really complete in the forward line, with Gordon also supplying cover to Kane centrally. If they still have enough money left over, perhaps they’ll also make a push for Mounguengue. But for now, they want to see if a deal for Gordon is possible. If not, then they’ll check the next possibilities.
