FLW lists the best combined Wolves & West Brom XI ahead of the Black Country derby this weekend.

One of the fieriest fixtures in the EFL Championship season is approaching this weekend, with Wolves hosting West Brom at Molineux in the Black Country derby.

In a game always marked in the calendar, the two sides will lock horns at Sunday lunchtime, aiming to keep their impressive starts to the season going.

Wolves, recently coming down from the Premier League, are hovering around the promotion picture, with a 1-0 victory away at Sheffield United last week meaning they’ve won three out of their last five league games and have 11 points on the board heading into the weekend's action.

Meanwhile, the Baggies have carried on their excellent turnaround from last term under James Morrison, taking 14 points from their opening seven matches and also staking a claim for a promotion push.

Therefore, it should be a match between two excellent sides who will be giving their all to win the bragging rights before the three-week international break.

With this in mind, FLW is listing the best combined Wolves and West Brom XI as the highly anticipated fixture draws closer.

GK: Jose Sa

Starting off between the sticks is Jose Sa, who gets in over Max O’Leary given his vast top-flight experience.

The 33-year-old has played 160 times in the Premier League at Molineux, while also representing Portugal on the national stage on five occasions.

A bit of a coup to have at Championship level, Sa is definitely one of the better goalkeepers in the division and makes the list.

RB: Kieran Trippier

At right-back, Kieran Trippier is also a shoo-in given what he’s achieved in his career both domestically and internationally.

At the age of 35, Trippier has made 235 appearances in the Premier League for the likes of Burnley, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, while also featuring regularly in La Liga with Atlético Madrid.

Playing at the heights of English football and in the UEFA Champions League, Trippier has also earned 54 caps for his country, famously scoring a glorious free-kick in the semi-finals of the 2018 European Championships against Croatia.

Having such an esteemed playing career, Trippier also offers immense quality and leadership in the present day, making him one of the easiest names to put into the XI.

CB: Nat Phillips

A West Brom player makes it into the heart of the backline, with Nat Phillips slotting in on the right half of central defence.

When it comes to Championship defenders, there’s few more accomplished than the 29-year-old, who spent nine years on Liverpool’s books after breaking through their youth system.

Phillips has had spells overseas with the likes of Celtic and Stuttgart, but his main football has been played in the second tier, achieving promotion with Bournemouth while also representing the likes of Cardiff City and Derby County.

And since arriving to The Hawthorns, Phillips has been a mainstay in the first-team, with his ability to head and kick away almost any ball that comes into the box, matched with his superb reading of the game, makes him one of the standout defenders in the division.

CB: Chris Mepham

Someone who has similar experience to Phillips is Chris Mepham, who makes it into the list and carries over their defensive partnership that won promotion with Bournemouth in 2022.

Along with his time with the Cherries, Mepham also secured one other promotion two seasons ago with Sunderland, part of a team that returned to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Making 121 appearances at the Vitality Stadium, 61 came in the top-flight, so Mepham is a player who has consistently played in the top two divisions of English football throughout his career.

While he hasn’t quite shown the best of himself in the blue and white stripes so far, Mepham’s pedigree can’t be questioned, and he makes it into the list for an impressive playing career so far.

LB: Callum Styles

Rounding off the defence is Albion’s Callum Styles, who is fast turning himself into a fan favourite at The Hawthorns.

Arriving on a free transfer from Barnsley in the summer of 2024, the Hungarian international has been ever-present in the Albion setup, always available and fit when needing to be called upon.

That was demonstrated in the 2025-26 campaign, with Styles playing all but one game throughout that Championship term, and in the process, earning the Supporters’ and Players Player of the Season awards.

This term, Styles has already notched a couple of goals in the opening stages of the campaign, while he’s also had to fill in at right-back due to the suspension of Brayann Pereira and an unfortunate injury to Nolan Galves.

A player that would do a job anywhere on the pitch and give 100%, Styles is a player who the Baggies faithful adore, and he makes it into the combined XI given his rise in an Albion shirt over the last three seasons.

CM: Andre

Heading into the midfield, and it’s back to Wolves with Andre.

The Brazilian missed just eight games in over two seasons of Premier League football since joining from Fluminense, and it’s a real steal they’ve kept him at Championship level after he’s also made 13 appearances for his national side.

Able to dictate the tempo in midfield with South American flair, Andre could be such a key player if Wolves are to come out on top in the Black Country derby.

While occupying a bit of a deeper role than his usual one for West Brom in this XI, Isaac Price makes it into the list.

The Northern Ireland international is a polarising figure at The Hawthorns, but at the age of 22, still has so much time to learn and grow.

While his attacking output has been highly inconsistent, his energy and pressing from the front is second to none, and it’s so important to make opposition defences uncomfortable when the midfielder has so much relentless running in his locker throughout 90 minutes of action.

If Price can get his attacking returns at a much more consistent level, there’s a Premier League player in waiting, with Price just needing to piece all the potential of his game together.

That being said, if the visitors are to create many chances at Molineux, then Price is likely to be involved, with the midfielder so dangerous at this level when on the top of his game.

RW: Rodrigo Gomes

Heading into the final third, Wolves have a lot of attacking talent, with Rodrigo Gomes expected to have a big season.

The 23-year-old was in and out of the Wolves setup in the top-flight, but now in the Championship, has already matched the tally of goals he got throughout last term.

A danger on the right flank with pace, close control and quality in the final third, he could be such an influential player this coming weekend.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan is another West Brom player with a bright future and has hit the ground running in his Championship debut season.

The former Peterborough United loanee has already notched six attacking returns from his opening seven league outings, with the England U20 international fundamental to the team either converting or creating chances.

While mainly leading the line for Albion, Morgan tends to drift over to the left and could still produce the goods on the left flank, and you do feel that if the Baggies are to get anything from Molineux, then Morgan will be at the heart of it.

With Wolves looking quite dangerous going forward, Lopez is another player who could play a decisive role in a home victory.
