Wolves have been dealt a major injury blow with Raul Jimenez set for a spell on the sidelines.

The striker suffered a knee injury during the first half of Wolves’ EFL Cup loss to Everton and boss Cesar Peixoto has confirmed he will miss a few weeks.

“Unfortunately, we are frustrated because Raul will stay injured for a few weeks,” Peixoto said.

“It is not a muscular injury, a small injury in the knee. It is not bad, but he is a key player for us.

“We are frustrated because he was only going to play 45 minutes and go out like Krejci. He needed minutes to stay fit for the next game.”

Peixoto admitted the timing of the setback is particularly frustrating, ahead of the derby against West Brom.

“These kind of things can happen in the game or a training session,” he added. “We don’t control these kind of things.

“We are frustrated, but like we showed today, we have a team, we have options.

“We are going to fight for him, fight to win the next game, for the fans and for Raul also.”

The Wolves boss says the focus is now on getting Jimenez back as quickly as possible while preparing the rest of his squad for a demanding run of fixtures.

“We are all frustrated about that, he is a key player for us,” Peixoto said.

“But we have to manage things, try to recover Raul as soon as possible, try to recover the team.

“We know the importance of the next game.”
