The Foxes earned back-to-back relegations, leaving the team in the third tier for the first time since 2009.

Russell Martin has been appointed as the new head coach over the summer, and he’s been tasked with guiding the club back to the Championship at the first attempt.

However, financial issues mean it could be a tricky summer transfer window, with major exits on the cards, with Jeremy Monga already leaving for Manchester City.

Leicester have until 1 September to conclude any transfer activity, with no signings yet made to strengthen Martin’s side.

Instead, players like Abdul Fatawu are being linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium.

It has been reported by journalist Mark Henry that Rangers are considering an approach to Leicester for Stephy Mavididi.

The 28-year-old is believed to be on the Scottish side’s radar, as they look to bolster their forward options for next season for Derek McInnes.

It’s understood that the Glasgow outfit are willing to offer as much as £7 million to try and get a deal done, although it’s unclear whether that will be enough to convince the League One club to cash in at this stage.

However, the two clubs have reportedly held positive discussions over a possible deal, indicating that an agreement could be reached between all parties to secure Mavididi’s transfer.

The winger has spent three seasons at the King Power, and has become a key figure during that time, making a total of 118 league appearances, including 30 in the Premier League.

Mavididi contributed just three goals and one assist from 42 games in the Championship last year, and has two years remaining on his current contract.

The 28-year-old joined Leicester under Enzo Maresca, and helped the Foxes gain promotion to the Premier League in 2023/24.

He registered 12 goals and six assists from 46 appearances in the second tier, but has struggled in the two campaigns since.

Leicester have yet to complete a single signing since the appointment of Martin as head coach, with the first team already back for pre-season.

The League One side will get the new campaign underway on 15 August with a trip to face Notts County.

Stephy Mavididi sale at £7 million is good work for Leicester

Mavididi was a quality addition to Leicester at first, but it’s clear that it’s time for him to move on after a really disappointing campaign.

The forward struggled in the Premier League, and didn’t readjust well to going back down to the Championship.

His disappointing performances in the second tier were a major contributor to the club suffering from poor form, which led to them being in the relegation mix when they were handed a six-point deduction penalty by the EFL.

If Leicester can secure the £7 million figure for Mavididi, then that would be good business, and could go a long way to helping Martin secure some additions to the side for the year ahead.
