There has been every indication that signing powerful and dynamic midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest is the primary transfer target for Manchester City. Jack Gaughan reported yesterday for the Daily Mail that concluding a deal to sign the England international was City’s top priority. Every sign this week has pointed toward City working to complete that goal. Now a new report indicates that City are edging closer to agreeing on a deal with Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson. Another sign has emerged that City is getting close to landing its top transfer target.

A deal that will see Manchester City sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest is reportedly close.

The latest update on Manchester City’s bid to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest has come from Fraser Fletcher for TeamTalk. Fletcher reports that a deal between City and Nottingham Forest that will see Anderson join the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders is moving into advanced stages. Furthermore, Fletcher reports that it is expected that any deal Manchester City agrees with Forest to sign Anderson could reach up to £100 million. It is reported that sources close to both clubs expect significant movement on the Anderson deal ‘within 48 hours’. Lastly, Fletcher reports that Manchester United have moved on to other transfer targets. United did have an interest in signing Elliot Anderson this summer. However, they are now seemingly out of the race to sign Anderson.

There is now little to suggest that City won’t land their man.

It has always felt like a matter of time before Manchester City agreed a deal to sign Elliot Anderson. City’s interest in signing the England international is by now well-established. In fact, it would have been a major shock if City didn’t get their man. Fraser Fletcher’s new report is another positive sign for City.

If, as expected, City agree to sign Anderson swiftly, it frees Hugo Viana to focus on other business this summer. It figures to be a busy summer for City. With Pep Guardiola having stepped down as City manager, a new era awaits the club. Besides signing Elliot Anderson, other areas of the City squad need bolstering. Right-back, another midfielder, a backup goalkeeper, and perhaps a winger could be on City’s summer shopping list. The quicker a deal for Elliot Anderson is agreed upon, the quicker City can move on to other summer transfer priorities. Nottingham Forest do seem willing to conclude the deal quickly also.

A deal between City and Nottingham Forest that will see Elliot Anderson become a City player seems close, perhaps even imminent. That isn’t a surprise; every recent indication has trended this way. It is now hoped that Fraser Fletcher’s report is on the money. That way, City will land the first big blow of the summer transfer window. It would be one that will see City considerably strengthen their midfield. That was a major goal for Manchester City this summer. It appears that it is one they are close to achieving.
