Barcelona fans have recently been treated to an absolute delight from none other than Lionel Messi, who made a surprise visit to the Spotify Camp Nou.
The Argentine even penned an interesting note upon his return to Camp Nou, admitting that he wants to return to the stadium one day.
Was this visit sudden, or is there a broader story to it? A recent report from SPORT has provided some useful inside scoop into the Argentine’s surprise visit to Camp Nou.
According to the report, the visit was a lightning-fast trip, and its timing was key.
Messi landed yesterday on a private flight from Miami around 2:30 p.m., accompanied by his compatriot Rodrigo de Paul. Both players were scheduled to join the Argentine national team in Alicante this Monday.
They simply decided to bring their trip forward by one day to enjoy a few hours of disconnection in Barcelona.
As already reported, the club itself had no information about the visit. Instead of staying at his residence, Messi stayed in a hotel very close to the stadium with his companion, Pepe Costa. After dinner, he and De Paul moved to the Camp Nou.
There, Messi had the opportunity to step on the pitch and contemplate the works of the stadium that was his home for two decades.
It was a moment full of symbolism, marking the first time Leo had returned to the Camp Nou since his abrupt and painful departure in the summer of 2021.
After the brief, emotional visit, Messi and De Paul flew to Alicante this morning. The secret visit only became public when Messi himself posted the bombshell photo.
“Last night I returned to a place I miss with my soul. A place where I was immensely happy, where you guys made me feel a thousand times the happiest person in the world,” he wrote on Instagram.
