Chelsea interim manager Calum McFarlane has admitted they are still undecided whether Marc Cucurella will feature against Manchester City.

Under-21s head coach McFarlane has been tasked with leading the team at The Etihad on Sunday, in what is going to be a very difficult task.

Chelsea and Enzo Maresca parted ways on Thursday, with the Italian just 18 months into a five year deal he signed in the summer of 2024.

Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior is reportedly the leading candidate, but BlueCo would also need to find a replacement manager for the Ligue 1 side.

McFarlane now finds himself in a situation he would never have expected to be in, and he faced the media for the first time on Friday afternoon.

Chelsea are already without the suspended Moises Caicedo, whilst Marc Cucurella was out on the pitch on Friday, and McFarlane has provided an update.

“Yeah, that is positive,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“We’re undecided on that so I don’t really have the full information on that as of yet.

“I’m sure it will come out in the next couple of days.”

Cucurella asked to be taken off in the second half of the defeat against Aston Villa last weekend, and it was reported he could have a hamstring issue.

The Spain international missed the draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday evening, and the Blues will be desperately hoping he’s ready to return.

Liam Rosenior speaks on Chelsea speculation

Rosenior also addressed the media on Friday afternoon ahead of Strasbourg’s game this weekend against Nice in Ligue 1.

Inevitably Rosenior addressed speculation linking him with the Chelsea job, and said in life there are no guarantees.

Providing everything goes to plan, Rosenior is expected to be the next Chelsea manager, and some reports have suggested he could be in place for Wednesday’s game against Fulham.
