Norwich City striker Mohamed Touré remains a record holder in the A-League to this day

Norwich City boss Philippe Clement will have his eyes fixed on a place in the Championship top eight this season, with promotion to the Premier League being the ultimate goal, and will be looking to one player in particular to lead the Canaries' charge.

Since Clement took charge of Norwich in November 2025 following the dismissal of Liam Manning, the club has been in play-off form in the Championship.

The former Monaco and Rangers boss utilised the January 2026 window to his advantage to bring in some key talent, with Ali Ahmed, Sam Field, and, most notably, Mohamed Touré arriving at Carrow Road.

Despite his lack of pre-season, injuries piling up, and off-field issues concerning the likes of Josh Sargent and Shane Duffy, Clement has steadied the ship, though that wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the excellent impact of Touré.

Entering the winter window, few clubs had as big a job on their hands as Norwich, who found themselves towards the foot of the table before Clement's arrival.

To make matters worse, USMNT striker and star forward Sargent had made his desire to leave and return to North America clear, as Toronto had a bid worth over £20 million accepted for the Norwich captain, as Clement had a tough task on his hands to replace the American.

Bodø/Glimt's Danish striker Kasper Høgh emerged as a potential target, but he proved to be far too expensive, as Norwich took a gamble on Australian striker Touré instead, parting ways with an initial £2.6 million to bring the then-21-year-old to Norfolk from Danish side Randers.

The Aussie has since set the world alight at Carrow Road, though his journey to this point is an incredible one, as the striker still holds a record in the A-League.

Touré was born in a refugee camp in the capital of Guinea, Conakry, as the second-oldest child to Liberian parents, and migrated to Australia as a child. He was spotted by Adelaide United in 2020, where he quickly progressed through the ranks.

The striker made his debut quickly after joining in February 2020 in a 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar, becoming the third-youngest debutant in the league's history and second-youngest in the club's history.

In just his second appearance, however, he would permanently mark his name in the history books by becoming the youngest player to ever score in the A-League, aged just 15 years and 325 days, netting in a 2-0 home win over Central Coast Mariners.

From there, Touré continued to be on the fringes of the club's first team, before taking his next steps to Europe in 2022.

Touré would join French side Reims in June 2022, though he would struggle to establish himself in the first team, and following a brief spell with Paris FC, he joined Danish outfit Randers in 2024.

In 48 games across all competitions in Denmark, Touré scored 12 and assisted nine. These weren't numbers to go crazy about, but Norwich looked beyond the basic stats, recognised his underlying data numbers and background, and decided he would become their Sargent replacement.

With two hat-tricks in the first few months after joining and 13 direct goal contributions in just 12 appearances, Norwich look as though they have a real star on their hands, as well as a current record holder.

With Touré holding the record for the youngest A-League scorer of all time, upon his debut for Norwich, where he netted a hat-trick in their 3-0 away win over Oxford United in the Championship, he became the first Canaries player to score a hat-trick on debut in 60 years.

This also meant he became the first player in 13 years to score a hat-trick on his starting debut in any of England's top four leagues, matching a modern record set by Jesse Lingard in 2013.

The young Socceroo is record-breaker by nature, and Clement will be hoping he can continue to do so in Norwich colours for many more years to come.
