Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef believes the upcoming AFCON break will provide an ideal period to address a persistent issue plaguing the team: their lack of clinical finishing in front of goal.

This follows a second consecutive 0-0 draw for Amakhosi, who were held by TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday in their final PSL match of 2025. The result mirrored their midweek stalemate against Chippa United.

With domestic football pausing for the Africa Cup of Nations later this month, Chiefs won't return to competitive action until January 2026. Youssef expressed concern over the dropped points but emphasized that the team's overall performance remains positive.

“I think both games [against Chippa and Galaxy], we said the same thing [about failure to convert chances created]. The most important thing is the performance of the team,” Youssef stated.

He elaborated on the mixed feelings within the camp, satisfied with their dominance in matches but frustrated by their wastefulness. “We dominated in both games and created a lot of opportunities, but we have the same problem in the last third. We are unlucky not to score. But now we have this break [2025 AFCON] to fix this problem and to think about how we can continue [moving] forward.”

Youssef highlighted that the foundation for success is being laid, even if the results are currently disappointing. “We are so happy about the performance of the team in the last few games. I think the team performed very well. But we are all frustrated about missing points because we are not scoring the opportunities we get."

The coach concluded by framing the finishing woes as a solvable problem, given the team's strong underlying displays. “We have to continue to work and fix this problem. Then I think the most important thing is the performance of the team. When the team is performing well, we don’t have to be scared. But when the team is not performing well, that’s a real problem for us.”
