Max Dowman had a huge impact from the bench in Arsenal’s win over Everton on Saturday, with his cross leading to Viktor Gyokeres’ opening goal before the teenager settled the result with a goal of his own.
The most widely-shared statistic after the game was that Dowman had become the Premier League’s youngest-ever goalscorer, and he’d also broken Cesc Fabregas’ record by becoming Arsenal’s youngest scorer in all competitions.
But one other stat to emerge from the Arsenal Matchday team was that Dowman was even younger than four members of the ball collection team on the day.

That’s not entirely surprising, as Dowman is still young enough to qualify for u16 football.
In another universe, he could have been starting for the Arsenal u16s against Ipswich Town earlier in the day, instead of scoring for the senior side in a title race.
Dowman still has the chance to break another record this season, as any goal in the Champions League would make him that competition’s youngest scorer as well.
The 16-year-old still has quite a long time to try and break that record, currently held by Ansu Fati, who was 17 years and 40 days at the time of his goal. Dowman won’t be that age until February 2027, so he still has almost a year.

Sadly, Dowman’s chances to break the records in the League Cup and FA Cup have passed him by, with his recent ankle injury denying him the chance to notch those goals.
Sunderland’s Chris Rigg became the League Cup’s youngest goalscorer in 2023, aged 16 and 51 days. Even if Dowman scores in next weekend’s final, he’d be 16 and 81 days, making him 30 days too old for that record.
The teenager won’t mind that too much. Just to be having an impact on an Arsenal team competing on four fronts is fantastic, to be doing it at his age is incredible, and it would almost feel rude to ask for more.
