Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers shared the spoils in a cagey 0–0 draw at Bramall Lane on Saturday afternoon. Despite both sides showing intent in flashes, the game ultimately lacked cutting edge in the final third.

The first 45 minutes offered plenty of effort but little end product. United started slowly, with QPR content to sit compact and frustrate. The hosts’ first real opening came when Sam McCallum’s long throw caused chaos in the Rangers box, Ben Mee snatched at the loose ball, sending his effort wide.

Gradually, the Blades began to assert themselves. Danny Ings came close with a diving header that forced a fine save from Hamer, before twice turning provider, first teeing up Jairo Riedewald, whose effort was blocked, and then setting McCallum through for a drive that was cleared off the line by Jimmy Dunne.

The best chance of the half fell to Tyrese Campbell, who burst into space and fired across goal, only for his shot to skim past the far post with Hamer beaten.

United had strong penalty appeals waved away in the second half when Callum O’Hare went down under pressure inside the area, while at the other end Burrell forced Michael Cooper into a solid save with a powerful effort from distance.

As the game entered its final stages, United pushed hard for a winner. Substitute Tom Davies injected energy and nearly unlocked the defence with a through ball to Campbell, only for Dunne to produce a superb recovery tackle. Chiedozie Ogbene then whipped in a dangerous cross to the far post, where McCallum’s header seemed destined for the bottom corner until Hamer’s outstretched arm denied him.

The Blades came closest through Sydie Peck, whose deflected effort in stoppage time struck the post and bounced out.

Wilder, speaking to SUTV, expressed both frustration and optimism:

“I’m a bit frustrated, like I imagine 27,000 of our supporters are. We’ve done more than enough to win. We needed the clean sheet after the goals we’ve conceded and the manner of them. The team are giving everything and the supporters recognised that.”

He highlighted the positives of a rare clean sheet and improved defensive structure:

“The team are giving everything and the supporters recognised that. We’re obviously lacking a little bit of belief and confidence with the position we’re in and that equates to taking that little bit too long to make that decision… We’ve gone for a win, and the stats will show that, and if you can’t win make sure you don’t get beat.”

Michael Cooper was an injury doubt for the game, however he did surprisingly start between the sticks. Wilder explained the situation, “He was okay, he put his hand up. I don’t think he was 100%, but the two weeks will do him a world of good.”

Wilder once again praised Sam McCallum for his energetic performance down the left:

“Sammy has earned his place in the team, I think he’s been outstanding. It was a physical substitution which is something we’re trying to get better with. Sammy is whole-hearted, came to the club last season and played a supporting act to Harrison. He deserves to play and start and I thought he was outstanding and nearly scored.”
