Liverpool came within a whisker of adding Anthony Gordon to their squad ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The Newcastle winger was for sale owing to his club’s poor PSR outlook - with his Euro 2024 campaign interrupted by transfer negotiations.
But the deal fell apart because the Geordies managed to sell players elsewhere - including Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson.
There is a good argument to be made that Liverpool should have taken advantage and bought all three that summer as right now their prices have only incresed.
Gordon, 24, is on fire this season in the Champions League - becoming the tournament’s second-highest goalscorer behind Kylian Mbappe in midweek.

The England international netted his seventh, eighth, ninth and 1oth goals of the European season - in the 6-1 hammering of Qarabag.
Boyhood Red Gordon has also got two assists in the prestigious competition - leading to inevitable questions about his future and in particular another Liverpool link.
“It’s the same old, same old,” he is reported to have said. “I haven’t heard anything. They might want to tell me before they tell you. I have gone through enough transfer stuff now to know that it is all a load of rubbish.
“I am focused on me and focused on the team, I am focused on right now. You look too far in the future and you start to underperform.
“And believe me I have done that and I am not going to do that now.”
