FLW looks at the best double acts at the top end of the pitch in the second tier

The best football teams have numerous feathers on their attacking bow and can really hurt defences from different avenues.

Recent Championship seasons have seen the likes of Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo, Aleksandar Mitrović and Harry Wilson, Teemu Pukki and Emi Buendia all terrorise opponents as a pair for promoted sides.

Even last season, Coventry City had five players score in double figures; we saw Oli McBurnie and Joe Gelhardt combine for 31 of Hull City's 70 league goals, and Ipswich Town were able to rotate Jack Clarke and Jaden Philogene on the left.

But who has the best attacking duo in the second tier this season?

Football League World has narrowed it down to seven, taking into account the quality of a pairing on the field or the potential they have if they've just been put together this summer.

Additionally, this isn't a general striker depth list — ideally, they'll be combining on the pitch together.

7 ? ? Kieffer Moore and Callum O'Hare — Wrexham

An example of looking ahead to what a duo could produce together takes us to Wrexham to kick off the list. Callum O'Hare was only brought to the Stok Cae Ras on deadline day, but it shouldn't be long until he's combining well with Kieffer Moore.

Moore has been one of the more dominant target men strikers in the Championship over the past few years, while O'Hare has registered double-digit goal involvements in all but one of his five second-tier seasons, picking up nine in his final year at Coventry.

For a Wrexham side who were one of the more entertaining ones going forward, netting the sixth-most team goals last year, it'll be expected that both Moore and O'Hare will be more than getting in on the act as the campaign rolls on.

It may only be early days in his Millwall career, but Tairyk Arconte is already looking like he has all the tools to be the next big-money sale from the Den, following in the footsteps of Romain Esse and Femi Azeez.

For the time being, though, Lions fans are getting to enjoy him on their side, crashing the box from a deeper role behind the main striker. That man up top, when fit, is Josh Coburn.

Coburn has all the skills to be a top striker at this level. Indeed, injuries have been the only thing stopping him in the infancy of his career and, as of writing, he's currently out with a heel injury.

He still netted nine in 22 league starts last season and has a couple in four to open this season. If he can stay fit, with Arconte behind him, there's all the potential for both the striker and the man behind to chip in with double digits as Millwall look to go one better than last year.

5 ? ? Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Aune Heggebo - West Bromwich Albion

West Brom have a lot to be excited about when it comes to their starting pair up top. Both Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Aune Heggebo had great pre-seasons, and they both got on the scoresheet on opening day against Norwich City.

And while it seemed that Baggies boss James Morrison was going to play Felix Horne Myhre behind Morgan after Heggebo got banned for his role in his goal against the Canaries, he reverted to that 4-4-2 against Watford last Saturday.

That's the right choice, as not only has the new arrival from Chelsea been brilliant at finishing chances so far in the early stages of his West Brom career, but he can also set up goals equally well, and Heggebo can benefit from that.

It'll be intriguing to see how many West Brom goals come from Morgan combining with Heggebo throughout the campaign.

4 ? ? Mo Toure and Andre Brooks — Norwich City

You can pair Mo Toure with quite a few of his Norwich teammates, and they'd do well not to land in the top seven in this list, which is a testament to how dangerous the attacking options at Carrow Road are.

In the end, I've opted for the £8 million marquee summer arrival from Sheffield United, Andre Brooks, who, as of writing, already has three goals in all competitions playing off the right side this season.

Combined with Toure, who has, quite frankly, a scary goals-per-90 ratio since he joined Norwich back in January, netting 14 in just 1064 minutes, which equates to a goal every 76 minutes, that duo could be pretty dangerous for the time being.

When Jovan Makama makes a full return from injury to play alongside Toure, Norwich could see themselves climbing onto the podium, too.

3 ? ? Fer Lopez and Raul Jimenez - Wolves

There's an argument to be made that Fer Lopez is the best player in the division, currently. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is showcasing his top-flight qualities in creating chances, scoring goals and being incredibly difficult to take the ball off.

With him playing behind someone as potent as Raul Jimenez, it makes Lopez's job even easier, as the defensive focus sometimes isn't even on the Spaniard.

Indeed, the veteran marksman and Wolves legend showed in the past few years at Fulham that, despite being 35, he still has the endurance to play at the top level and perform in front of goal.

He has a couple of goal involvements this year, a number which will only go up, especially if Lopez stays fit behind him.

2 ? ? Cyle Larin and Leo Scienza - Southampton

Like with Norwich, it's a coin flip over who you choose to partner Cyle Larin to form the dynamic duo at Southampton. Finn Azaz may have more goal involvements at present, but the danger that Leo Scienza possesses out wide is unmatched.

Firstly, though, Larin is showing why Saints fans were so desperate for him to sign a permanent deal after his loan spell last year. The Canadian netted eight in just 853 minutes of Championship action last season and has picked up where he left off brilliantly.

He has six in eight in all competitions to open the campaign, and off the left, Scienza has five contributions in eight, including two league goals.

The way the Brazilian can drift past opposition full-backs down the line, or cut inside and fire into the far corner (or off both posts, in Lincoln City's case) is a joy to watch, and the fact Southampton were able to keep him at St Mary's this summer is absolutely massive in their promotion credentials.

However, that Southampton duo just falls short of a pairing who showed last season that they can be a dangerous double act in the Premier League.

There's an argument to be made that we haven't seen Jarrod Bowen at his best just yet in the 2026/27 campaign, so for him to have five goals and three assists in eight games in all competitions isn't bad going.

The 29-year-old is highly regarded as the best player in the Championship, given his vast experience in the top-flight at West Ham, which saw him register over 100 goal involvements in 238 games.

Then, leading the line is Taty Castellanos, who was playing for Lazio in Serie A this time last year and has since become one of the few striker additions at the London Stadium in recent years who hasn't flopped massively during his time at the club.

He's yet to score in the league so far, but has three in EFL Cup action and an assist in league action, too.

Come the end of the season, we could be looking at around 40 combined goal involvements for the two, which is incredibly impressive.
