An insight into the plans of incoming Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick to make use of the talents of youngster Gavi has this weekend been forthcoming online.

The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and points towards Flick as having identified a pair of potential roles for the sidelined midfielder in his starting XI.

The German is expected to make use of a new-look formation in Catalunya’s capital next season, in the form of a 4-2-3-1.

As part of such a system, Flick envisions Gavi acting chiefly as an unorthodox ’10’, behind a central striker.

The former Bayern Munich boss requires very specific qualities for the attacking midfielder in his setup, demanding technical quality and off-ball pressure in equal measure.

And Gavi, it is understood, is considered as a perfect fit for the role.

Beyond as much, the 19-year-old could also be dropped back into a deeper position, as one of two ‘pivots’.

The expectation is that the base of Barcelona’s midfield next season will be manned by Frenkie de Jong, alongside either İlkay Gündoğan, or a more natural defensive-minded addition from the transfer market.

In the absence of De Jong through injury or whatever may be the case, though, Gavi could well also be tested in a more low-lying berth than he is accustomed to.
