The World Cup break is over! Kane and Co. are back at FC Bayern | OneFootball

The new season is just around the corner, and FC Bayern is now in the decisive phase of its summer preparations. Vincent Kompany is now set to welcome back his final three World Cup returnees: Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Dayot Upamecano are scheduled to report back to Munich on Friday. However, the trio doesn’t have much time left before the start of competitive play.

While the German national team players have been training with FC Bayern for quite some time now following their early World Cup exit in the Round of 32 against Paraguay, Kompany has recently had to do without three key players.

Kane, Olise, and Upamecano played significantly longer at the World Cup and were therefore granted extended special leave by FC Bayern. That leave is now coming to an end. On Friday, the three stars will return to Munich and officially begin preparations for the new season.

However, the trio won’t be heading straight to the training field just yet. First on the agenda are the mandatory medical examinations and performance diagnostics. These will be conducted at the Barmherzige Brüder Hospital in Munich.

The Telekom Cup comes too soon for Kane and Co.

This also means that Kane, Olise, and Upamecano will not play in Saturday’s Telekom Cup match against RB Leipzig.

For Kompany, playing would involve an unnecessary risk anyway. While most of the team already has several weeks of preparation under their belts, the three World Cup participants are essentially starting from scratch.

Kane and Co. missed both the training camp at Tegernsee and the subsequent trip to Asia. While their teammates have already been working intensively on fitness, plays, and tactical details, the three returnees now have to make up for this deficit—at least in part.

Kompany is unlikely to take any unnecessary risks, especially with Kane and Olise. Both are among the most important players in Bayern’s offense and need to return to peak physical condition as quickly as possible.

Upamecano is also firmly in the plans for center back. Together with Jonathan Tah, the Frenchman forms the preferred duo in the heart of the defense.

Following Friday’s examinations, the three Bayern stars are set to be gradually reintegrated into the team over the coming days. Their return to regular team training is scheduled for next week.

This also marks the start of a bit of a race against time. The first competitive match of the new season—the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund—is already scheduled for August 22.

In principle, Kane, Olise, and Upamecano could be available again for the match against BVB. Whether they’ll make the starting lineup, however, will likely depend largely on the impression the trio makes during their first training sessions.

After all, their training deficit is not insignificant. Compared to many of their teammates, Kane, Olise, and Upamecano are missing nearly two weeks of team training.

Kompany will therefore likely have to carefully weigh how quickly he brings his key players back to full workload. Especially after a long season and an additional World Cup, it would be risky to ramp up the three stars from zero to full speed within just a few days.

For FC Bayern, however, the trio’s return is still significant news. For the first time in this preseason, Kompany will have nearly his entire squad at his disposal.
