As the summer transfer window draws closer, some names are coming up time and again in connection with Chelsea, convincing us that there’s something to the links.

In the end it all comes down to the journalists who are willing to put their name to the links, and right now we’ve got a big fish willing to put his neck on the line. Well respected Bundesliga focused insider Christian Falk is the latest to bang the Jamie Gittens to Chelsea drum.

Dortmund winger Gittens linked by numerous sources

“I have heard that Chelsea are still very interested in Jamie Gittens. His former youth coach at Cobham is said to have already made contact with him,” the BILD reporter exclusively told CaughtOffside in his latest “Falk Files” column.

“There is an idea at the club to swap him for [Carney] Chukwuemeka. So, there might be a swap deal to be made.”

There has also been some pushback in recent days about Gittens being as close as some have reported, but there’s no doubt at this point that he’s a player on our shortlist at the very least.

Gittens for Chukwuemeka could work as a “swap that’s not a swap”

Usually we don’t pay much attention to swap deal chatter. They’re notoriously hard to pull off, and in the modern era of PSR and FFP, it usually benefits clubs to arrange separate deals rather than unified swaps, for amortisation reasons.

But we’ve seen plenty of swaps that weren’t actually swaps – like our mind-bendingly stupid decision to send Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid in return for Joao Felix (whatever happened to him?).

In this case, we’re clearly keen to let Chukwuemeka leave, and if we think we’d rather have Gittens as an option on the wing, this seems like a deal that potentially works for both sides.
