With just four games of the season remaining the race for Champions League football is at a critical stage and former Chelsea boss Glenn Hoddle has had his say on whether the Blues will qualify.

Chelsea were handed a favour after Brentford beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Thursday night, with the Blues now occupying the fifth and final Champions League spot with just four games remaining.

The race looks set to go to the wire with just four points separating Manchester City in third and Forest in sixth, although City have played a game more.

Hoddle gives Chelsea Champions League verdict

Chelsea have the toughest run-in of the teams in contention and former Blue John Obi Mikel has already admitted he’s worried by their fixtures.

The Blues host Liverpool in a game described as “huge” by former Blue Joe Cole, but they’ve been handed a potential boost after Arne Slot confirmed he’s be rotating his side.

Chelsea have missed out on the Champions League for the past two seasons, and whilst they’re on track to win the Conference League, they need to be back in Europe’s Premier Club competition as soon as possible.

With the season reaching it’s conclusion former Blues boss Hoddle has now shared whether he think his former side will finish in the top five.

“I think Chelsea have the hardest fixtures,” he told TNT Sports.

“Chelsea are the question mark for me, as much as I would like them to go into the Champions League, I think Chelsea might, just might, be the ones that [miss out].

“There’s two great big games, Newcastle away and Forest away, the last game of the season. Wow! Now, in some ways, they’re good games to have because, if they win, they take the points away from those two teams challenging.

“But their results have not been good away from home. At the Bridge, they’ve done well, but away from home, they’ve not been so good. So I think Chelsea might actually miss out.”

Blues face tough run in

Hoddle has a point about the big away games and the Blues don’t have the best record on the road this season with just seven wins from 17 games.

Chelsea were able to take four points from the corresponding fixtures at home, and if they can match that away they will more than likely finish in the top five.

The good thing for the Blues is qualification is in their hands, win their games and they will be in the Champions League, but it feels like there are plenty of twists to come.
