There is unfortunately a bit of a catch with Rangers proposed takeover.
It is indeed the very catch that Ibrox Noise has been warning about for the best part of a year.
And what is that you may ask?
It remains the continued problem of persuading groups of shareholders to sell.
While press speculation claims that John Bennett and Dave King are open to selling they are only two of the groups who own Rangers and there are many many more who have have to be persuaded as well.
Obviously, we knew that Dave King wanted his money back and the 49ers do have an abundance of that stuff but the likes of Douglas Park are very much digging their heels in and this takeover is by no means a forgone conclusion.
Indeed the story broke as an exclusive that these investors from the USA wanted to take Rangers over and they were in advanced talks to do so: the problem there is that nothing had been confirmed or deduced.
The initial breaking story made it seem that the deal was done and that is very much not the case.
There are many fragmented shareholder groups that these investors must persuade to sell and Bennett and King are only two of them and definitely don’t make up the majority.
There is still a lot of work to be done before this takeover is a success.
But at least somebody is trying.
