Saint-Étienne have signed Austrian winger Thierno Ballo, 24, from Wolfsberger on a four-year contract running to 2030.
Sporting director Loïc Perrin said Ballo brings a high-energy attacking profile, can repeat his runs across a match and is relentless, qualities that appealed to the club.
Ballo arrives after a loan at Millwall in the English second tier, where he recorded one goal and six assists in 35 games in all competitions.
Born in Abidjan, the Austria international has one cap and developed in Austria, at Bayer Leverkusen and at Chelsea. He later featured for Rapid Vienna, making 13 appearances, then Wolfsberger, where he played 110 times with 32 goals and 18 assists, before Millwall.
He is Saint-Étienne’s fourth summer signing after Sohaib Naïr, Jakob Breum and Mamour Ndiaye. Ian Cathro’s side play their first friendly on Saturday at 18:00 against FC Biel-Bienne at the Envol Stadium in Andrézieux-Bouthéon.
The fee is estimated at €3 million.
