Jeremy Doku hopes this could be his best ever season at City and wants to take his good form into the second half of the campaign.

The Belgian winger who moved to the Etihad Stadium in August 2023, has made 20 starts already this season – the same as 2023/24 and only five fewer than the following campaign.

He will be in Pep Guardiola’s squad for our final UEFA Champions League league phase game against Galatasaray on Wednesday night at 20:00 (UK).

It’s one of four trophies that City are competing for and Doku will hope that come the end of the season, he can reflect on his best year.

“My prime season? Let’s see at the end of the season,” he said ahead of our game against the Turkish side at the Etihad.

“I can say that I always try to to grow and I always try to become better.

“We’re just halfway through the season but I feel like I’ve been doing better and let’s see what it brings.

“But I believes that this season will be better than the previous two for sure.”

Doku missed our last European match against Bodo/Glimt after picking up a knock in the Manchester derby.

Defeat has left us needing to beat Galatasaray in our final league game to have a chance of claiming a top-eight finish.

City’s number 11 says it would be a big benefit to avoid two play-off games at a busy time of the season.

“It will help us a lot,” Doku added. “Less games means more rest and more rest hopefully means less injuries because we have quite a few now.

“Avoiding those two games will be beneficial for us, to rest a bit more and it will help us.”

Fewer games would also help our Premier League challenge with City now four points behind Arsenal at the top of the table.

The leaders slipped up at the weekend and while the defeat helps our hopes, Doku says he is focused on City’s performances.

“It’s difficult to say because it’s not that I find joy in [Arsenal’s defeat],” he said.

“I didn’t watch the game but I saw that they lost and I know there are a lot of games in this competition.

“United played very well [against us] and we were not at our best.

“We need to focus on ourselves and do our job and we still play them as well so a lot of things will happen. If they lose it’s better for us for sure.”
