“This has to be our year”: Kane makes a clear statement about the Champions League | OneFootball

Harry Kane has a major goal with FC Bayern this season: winning the Champions League. After their narrow elimination in last season’s semifinals, the 33-year-old is convinced that the Munich team is ready to take the next step. For the striker, the Champions League trophy absolutely must go to Munich this time.

In an interview with TNT Sports, Kane made it clear just how close he believes Bayern already is to the top of European soccer. “We’re very close. Last season, small details made the difference. We’re going into this season now and saying: This has to be our year.”

Last season, the German record champions fell just short against Paris Saint-Germain, who went on to win the Champions League. After two hard-fought semifinal matches, Vincent Kompany’s team was ultimately defeated with a combined score of 5–6.

For Kane, the defeat was further proof that Bayern fundamentally has the caliber to win the Champions League. Now, that near-success is finally set to become a major triumph.

Kane wants to be there in Madrid on June 5

The goal is clearly defined: On June 5, 2027, the Champions League Final will take place at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid. There, the Munich team aims to fight for its seventh title in the Champions League.

For Kane, a victory would once again hold very special significance. Although the Englishman has since ended his long personal title drought at FC Bayern and celebrated major domestic successes with the Munich team, a Champions League title would be the greatest team achievement of his career to date.

Kane has also recently made it clear that he isn’t basing his future solely on this season. The forward isn’t concerned about retiring anytime soon. Instead, he looks to global stars like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Luka Modric, who continue to play at a high level even as they age.

At the same time, FC Bayern is making plans for continued collaboration. Kane’s current contract expires in the summer of 2027. The Munich club would like to extend his contract early, and the striker can also envision staying longer. However, a final agreement has not yet been reached.

Bayern makes no secret of its title ambitions

Kane is by no means alone in his bold statement among the record champions. Even within Bayern’s leadership, winning the Champions League is being touted as a major goal.

The club intends to continue creating the necessary conditions to achieve this. Sporting director Max Eberl recently emphasized that Bayern is, in principle, capable of handling exceptionally large transfers, provided the decision-makers are fully convinced of a player’s merits. At the same time, the Munich club does not want to get caught up in every financial arms race waged by its European rivals.

Manuel Neuer also made it clear ahead of the Champions League opener where the team is headed: “It is our main goal to become Champions League winners.”

This ambition runs through the entire club. Kompany wants the Champions League trophy, Neuer wants it—and Kane is also setting his sights on Europe’s most prestigious club trophy.

For the English striker, the situation is clear. Bayern came very close last season. Now the decisive “little things” need to fall into place for Munich. Kane’s message could hardly be clearer: “This has to be our year.”
