Ange Postecoglou vowed that he will implement changes to his Nottingham Forest side by the time of Wednesday’s clash against Swansea in the Carabao Cup.
Forest were beaten 3-0 by Arsenal in Postecoglou’s first game in charge, having only taken over as head coach earlier this week.
But asked whether it could take a while for him to implement his style of play, the former Spurs boss responded: “Oh no mate. It won’t be months, it won’t be weeks, it’ll be Wednesday.
“I can’t afford to waste time. This is not a project. This football club had a strong season last year. It needs to be stronger this year.
“My job is to get us to where I want us as quickly as possible. By Wednesday night we’ll start seeing some real principles being embedded.
“It won’t take long. I’m not going to let it take long. I’ll make sure that we turn it around because we’ve got an unbelievable opportunity this year to make an impact. I’m not going to let that slip.”
Reflecting on Forest’s defeat to the Gunners, Postecoglou pointed to a “disruptive” week playing a part in the loss.
“Fair play to them, they’re a very good side, especially here at home,” Postecoglou said.
“Even if everything’s going well, it’s still a difficult task to come here. But to keep my disappointment in terms of the result in context, it’s been a very disruptive week for the players. Seven days ago, their world was totally different from what it is today. You’ve got to understand that, I certainly do.
“Can’t fault the players’ endeavour and effort. I thought we hung in there, we never really had control of the game at any point, but I thought we worked really hard in the first half. Small seeds towards the end of the first half of us maybe being able to cause them some problems but the second goal straight after half-time killed the game.
“They’re very good at controlling it from there and we weren’t able to get back in it. You can’t accept defeat and you’ve got to be disappointed by it but in the context of what the week’s been like, I can’t fault the players in terms of what they were trying to do.”
